Padilla Habano rolled in Honduras
I won a box of these from CBID and checked the bottom of the box and found two things. A stamp that states "hecho in Honduras" and a date of Nov. 18th 2008. I thought these were rolled in Esteli at AJ Fernandez's factory? What gives....... and should it/is it the same tobacco?

Best to ask the man himself. He is pretty good at answering emails.

Re: Padilla Habano rolled in Honduras
Post back here if/when you get an answer. I've heard different things regarding the Habanos, some say he split from Fernandez about the time he split from Pepin, others say nothing changed.

Re: Padilla Habano rolled in Honduras
Email was sent this morning, so we shall see, hopefully I hear something. Either way, the construction looks fantastic (although to me the proof is in the draw). They also look incredibly oily and delicious, packed with no cello.

Re: Padilla Habano rolled in Honduras
sorry about taking a while, but Ernesto did get back to me. He stated:
"Jeremy sorry for any headaches on email they are actually made in Nicaragua that was a mix up on box factory hope this helps" So, fair enough.

Re: Padilla Habano rolled in Honduras
Well the 1932 seems to have a Honduran Wrapper on it but then again I'm no expert and believe everything I am told. I can tell you that it is nowhere near as good as the Pepin blend which I still have a box of.
The new version sports a cheaper looking wrapper, ash that fall's every 1/2" and a very different taste!

Re: Padilla Habano rolled in Honduras
I have a box of the 32s with a box date of June 08. Are these the new ones or Pepin's? Either way it is just as good as all the others I have smoked!

Re: Padilla Habano rolled in Honduras
Jeremy,
I asked the same question over at HP. Good info on that thread. I won my box when it was advertised as "Pepin". My box say Hecho Nicaragua (Jul 08 I think). It doesn't have any info about Pepin like they used to on the box. Mine are going back. Not that I don't want them, but I paid Pepin prices and they are going for a LOT less now. I won them at the beginning of Dec, and like I said they were specifically advertised on the CBID lot as still being Pepin. Joe

Re: Padilla Habano rolled in Honduras
Right now the 32 is my favorite cigar for sure, and these taste just as good as all the others I have smoked. The only difference of course is I can tell they don't have as much age as some older ones I have.

Re: Padilla Habano rolled in Honduras
There is a sweet discussion going on right now concerning the Padilla 1932.
CLICK> Crazyfool is BACK! With a question on the 1932 You might have better luck getting answers over there since the title of this thread indicates the Padilla Habano. Now don't get me wrong… I am just trying to help you out ![]() Or you could just write Ernesto as my good friend Bob suggested and the OP did ![]() ernesto@padillacigars.com |

Re: Padilla Habano rolled in Honduras
I just received a box of Padilla Miami (post DPG, with the new band). These also are in simple box (which is fine, but not as nice as the old Miami's 8/11). My new box is also stamped with "Hecho Honduras." The cigars also came very loosely packed, meaning there was a bot too much extra room in the box and the cigars shuffled about a great deal during transit. Nothing was too damaged, but definitely some wrapper damage to a few.
Smoking one now (too early I know, but I like to see how they progress). It is a very decent smoke, lots of woody/caramel flavors. Seems to be a bit less peppery without Don Pepper's hand in them. However, I am rather impressed as I believe with some age these will be just as good, ialthough different, than the original Miamis. Not sure what the Honduras box thing is all about though, as I thought these were rolled in Nicaragua? I love Padilla cigars and I hope Ernesto ties up all the loose ends. Great potential here to continue making some fine blends. Also smoked a 1932 robusto last night, and a 68 toro the night before. 1932 was good, not as smooth, with a bit of a punch to it. The 1968 was delicious, smooth, lots of cocoa and honey. Loved it. For me so far: 1) 68, 2) New Miami, 3) 1932. Last edited by MiamiRolled; 02-12-2009 at 11:42 PM.. |
