Challenge:Flavor, body, strength. What do they really mean to you. Part 2
Thank you Montecristo#2 for bringing this up.
This has been something that I've wanted to bring up for some time. As a relative newb, I've struggled with posting reviews because words are so difficult to express something as intangible as smoke! What the hell does body, strength, flavor really mean. I mean, we all use many of the same terms, yet judging from these posts, they mean something different to each of us. How the hell are we supposed to understand what one person means when they use these terms? I'm sure this has been done somewhere, someplace, where it's a little more scientific, but I haven't seen it yet. What I found that is somewhat helpful is this chart gleaned off another site. At least it kind of gives you a guideline.
There's been a number of posts that are on the right track. Wouldn't it be great where we can come up with a way of rating and reviewing cigars usinig a more stringent set of rules for describing our experiences? Even though maybe our own personal experience may differ, but we use the same standard to evaluate the cigar?
So far, to me, the best measure of a cigar mentioned here, is to identify someone with similar tastes to yours and using his experiences to expand yours. But this, in itself means that both of you have had to smoke at least more than a few of the same cigars. Not terribly efficient.
With the added power of numbers that this site should have, now that we are combining a number of sites into one, maybe we can collectively poll our members to decide what each and every one of these terms really mean.
I challenge CS....er...um....cough, cough..... Puff.com.....(I'm sure I'll grow to love the name),
to come up with a more or less standard, that the majority of the members can agree to, so that we can have a clearer idea of what terms like flavor, body, strength, etc really mean. I think the best way to go about this is by doing a poll for each of these terms.
I would start this myself, but I think it would be more powerful and meaningful if someone with a lot more credibility than me would get the ball rolling. And there may be other aspects I haven't even thought of.
So what do you say? Mods? Jon? anyone????
or maybe it's just so late, and I'm so tired, that I really should just go to bed.............................
