Ghurkha Beast-what Beast?

20 minutes? Did you hook it up to a vacuum between draws?

Re: Ghurkha Beast-what Beast?
Not sure what was expected from Ghurkha - the Rolls Royce of cigars, every one I have smoked (about 10 different types: Beast, Titan, Doble Maduro, G5, Master Select, Black dragon,G3, triple ligero, etc) have been hollow tasting and uninspired. Whenever I smoke one, I can't help but think of the training wheels I once had on my bike - they would have been a great cigar when I was 16, but now I get nothing from them. But, they do look great, so great I often buy one, only to be disappointed and reminded how vacuous of depth and robustness they truly are. I think they are a GREAT cigar for friends who don't smoke much however and often keep some in my humi for dinner guests that don't smoke cigars much.

Re: Ghurkha Beast-what Beast?
![]() No kidding! When I smoke the "Beast" it takes alot longer than 20 minutes to smoke this sucker. All the Beasts I have smoked are great,,,good flavor,,good burn but I don't pay $20 for em either,,,that is crazy. The most I pay for any Gurkha is $5 for any of them,,,no matter. As a matter of fact, CI has a sale going on for the Centurians 12 for $39,,,a very good cigar.

nope, 20 minutes straight up, finish was weak also...Never buying that again. Now a Rocky Patel Edge, wow, that is a good one. Feels solid, can't bite through it, strong, takes 1.5 hr to finish, great flavors and smell.

Re: Ghurkha Beast-what Beast?
20 minutes, wow, I'd be hard pressed to finish a petit corona in that time.....
This is probably a 3-5dollar cigar at cbid, not a bad cigar.... but definetly not a 20$ smoke. |

Re: Ghurkha Beast-what Beast?
Squid® does not have a single Gurkha in the rather large Squid-A-Dor®...

Re: Ghurkha Beast-what Beast?
I can't imaging you would get very good flavor from any cigar that you nubbed in 20 minutes. It probably tasted like a charcoal briquette. Learn control you must, young Skywalker.
Haven't tried the beast, but love the Titan, Legend, Doble Maduro, and Symphony 101. Always takes me more than an hour and I never pay more than $3-5. |

Re: Ghurkha Beast-what Beast?
if you smoked a beast in 20 minutes then i think we found your problem
i smoked one two week ago, and it took me an hour + to finish off hitting pretty regularly during a poker game. you know you dont hit a cigar like a hookah right? haha |

Re: Ghurkha Beast-what Beast?
I've never had a problem with a Beast. Smoked quite a few. The only Gurkhas I even smoke are Beasts and Nepalese Warriors

Re: Ghurkha Beast-what Beast?
I don't know about hookah, we dont play that in my neightborhood, cigars straight up all the way, no distractions. Channanigans? I've been enjoying cigars for over 10 years, I'm no spring chicken here...I need something solid, weighty, and full-body..the Ghurka Beast is not..it's hollow, loosely wrapped, and light as a few blades of grass...20 minutes stands, I stand by it, I'll be glad to youtube it for you for your amusement. Rocky Patel Edge, a $9 dollar cigar thats solidly built, full-body, and burns well, took me 1.5 h to finish.

Re: Ghurkha Beast-what Beast?
I doesn't matter how long you've been smoking. My wife has driven a stick shift since she learned to drive and still dumps the clutch every time. If you take more than 20-30 puffs in 20 minutes then you're smoking too fast to get the real flavor out of ANY cigar. I would seriously doubt that anyone could finish the beast in 30 puffs. How long would you estimate that you wait between puffs?
The hotter and faster a fire burns, the more efficient it burns, which means less smoke. This is true of fireplaces, diesel trucks, bbq grills, houses, and cigars. A slow smoldering burn creates much more smoke, as everything isn't being reduced to pure carbon. You don't want the tar and oils to get fully combusted. They supply the flavor and texture of the smoke. Now, I love Rocky Patel cigars too. I would say that I have more of his sticks in my collection than any other brand. I proudly display a picture of me posing with Rocky when he came to visit my local B&M. I have no doubt that his sticks are well made and a much a better value for the money than Gurkha...especially if you're paying retail. I don't disagree that the Edge has more tobacco and a tighter roll than the Beast. That being said, I bet you would get more subtle flavors and overall enjoyment from your Edge if you waited a minute or so between puffs. |
