Re: SCHIP panic buying excuse!!

That's the excuse I'm using, too. I've been going kind of nuts for the last few months. I can afford them, for now, but an extra $8-10 ( or more) per box will put a bit of a dent in my purchasing power.

The whole thing pisses me off more than I can accurately express, and I'm a pretty expressive SOB. The children for whom this is supposed to provide health insurance can be up to 30 years old, and, depending on how big the family is, they can have a household income of over $100,000!

Does that sound like a program for poor children? Or health, for that matter? Of course not. It's nothing more than the same old war on tobacco that we have been subjected to for over 40 years, just dressed up in a pretty new silk suit. The vermin in Congress think we're all a bunch of drooling morons, who will gladly do as we're told, or they'll just keep passing more and more laws until we do. The anti-tobacco zealots gave us their best arguments, and that didn't work, so they made up even better arguments, and you ungrateful Philistines are still smoking, so they'll just keep making it more and more painful until you finally figure out who's the boss.

Re: SCHIP panic buying excuse!!

I was really tempted to do a good $400 CI order the other day, but I tempered my desire and settled for just a box. We'll see how long my restraint lasts...I'm guessing another week at most, with all this SCHIP talk in the air.

Basically, every time you buy a box of cigars, Uncle's going to reach into it and take out 2-5 cigars. For the children.

They obviously need it more than we do. Unc hates us anyways because we're "killing ourselves" with tobacco.

In eight years when we're all on government-mandated HillaryCare and are told what to eat, when and how to exercise, and not to smoke, we'll probably all look back at a 40 cent tax increase with fond hearts.

It's just the first step to national health care.

Re: SCHIP panic buying excuse!!

As soon as the election results were announced I started my plan to buy at least one box a month until the prices went up. Sometime it was one box every two weeks.

This is very true and it does make the most since. However, booze does not cause cancer, nor does second hand drinking harm other people around you. (no one has ever been hurt by a person who was drinking right?) Also, and probably the most important aspect, if they raised taxes on booze, then THEY (congress and the rest of the power elite) would have to pay the taxes. You would raise the cost of something they enjoy and imbibe in quite a lot. Can't have that now can we. Isn't the whole purpose of being an elected official power and wealth? If they have to pay more for their drink, that might prevent some of their wealth.

Booze may not cause cancer but it can lead to a multitude of other health issues - liver and kidney disease for example. Second hand drinking? Try DUI deaths.

Why not tax McDonalds and Burger King? They harm more children than second hand smoking.

Re: SCHIP panic buying excuse!!

My B&M has a spreadsheet on schip, and how every tobacco product will increase. I'm gonna head up there in a lil bit. I'll bring one home and type it up.

Re: SCHIP panic buying excuse!!

From my understand they are already trying to tax McDonald's and Burger King. It will be called the Obesity Tax. New York is currently trying to tax soft drinks along with other sugar beverages..........

The new top 25 came out in the current Cigar Aficianado and the list tempts me to try a few I've not smoked before.

Any excuse you can find is a good one! . Honestly though, SCHIP is the least of your worries as far as new taxes go. B. Hussein is already talking about doing away with the Bush tax cuts well before they expire in 2011.

Re: SCHIP panic buying excuse!!

The S-Chip catalog from J.R. really got me excited. Got together with three cigar buddies and put together a big order. Me, I was excited about the CAO Soprano's at half of the cheapest price I've ever seen them for. Went to make the order and found they were sold out of damn near everything we wanted. Was was way disappointed about the Soprano's especailly. Still ordered a few but as much since they were already sold of most of what I wanted.

Re: SCHIP panic buying excuse!!

yeah it's got me scared too, the only problem being that i don't have the money to make a "nest egg", if you will, of cigars. but i would recommend that before you buy another box, you buy a membership to CRA. stick together and maybe we can change something about this stupid, stupid plan.

Re: SCHIP panic buying excuse!!

I went through EVERYTHING in the cooledors and the Aristocrat and I found several boxes I forgot I even had! So I'm in a bit better shape than I thought I was. Have to admit that the idea of buying NOW and saving some LOST money to yet ANOTHER senseless tax........... IS appealing.

I may very well order a couple of boxes of Padron Anni's or something ISOM with the rest of my cigar mad money.
