Walk away
If for some ungodly reason you are interrupted and have to lay down your cigar, what is the maximum time you will let it sit before you pitch it, and light up another? Personally, if the cigar has sat for more than 45 minutes I trash it.

Re: Walk away
If it cools down it's bad news....not quite sure how long that takes and it depends on ring gauge I suppose. I don't let my sticks go out on me.

I think maybe an hour, but I usually take it with me.

Re: Walk away
New to cigar smoking and have had numerous noob experiences with the dreaded day after stench.
Will never keep another lit stick overnight again. My tolerance these days is 1-2 hours depending on size. |

Re: Walk away
I won't relight a smoke if it's been out more than a couple minutes.

Re: Walk away
I give it the 10 minute rule but then again why let it out unless there is a true emergency?

Re: Walk away
I'm a firm believer in learning and taking responsibility for my mistakes.
Being new to cigar smoking last summer, I assumed it was OK to resume smoking a half lit cigar the next day. Was half way through a Cohiba Siglo VI but was called away for a project meeting. Left the cigar in my small locked car for 2 days in the middle of a summer heat wave with the window closed. Well a couple days later, the stench was something fierce! ![]() As dry and rancid as it was, there was no way I was letting that baby go to waste. No way baby. So I spent the next horrible hour sucking it back. Live and learn Baldy, live and learn. Needless to say I'll never, and I mean never, do that again. |

Re: Walk away
Something I have not tried but just thought of. How would it be to cut about .25 to .5 inch off the lit end of a cold but barely smoked cigar? It is too late for me to engage this experiment tonight but I wonder if anyone has tried it? I don't think I would want it back in the humidor but maybe it could wait on a shelf in an air conditioned/heated home for a day or so?

Re: Walk away
Hmm I've never really experienced that "rancid stench" after leaving them out. The longest I've gone is when I may leave one in the ash tray in the car overnight and light it up the next day, but only if theres enough left that its worth it.
I'd say antime within that day I'd light it up, before it gets too dry. They've always still tasted good to me. |

Re: Walk away
A cigar never tastes good after its been relit. Normally I make sure I can smoke mine all the way to the end but recently I have had to put a couple down for one reason or another and they went out. Neither tasted good afterward.

Re: Walk away
Relighting a cigar once it has gone cold is something I can no longer do. The old ash taste ruins the whole experience. I don't want my last memory, or taste to be of ash.

Re: Walk away
Cut the end off the burn end and blow through out through it maybe 10 times and you will be surprised how good they will re-light and taste. I would say you should be able to do this for 24hours as long as it doesn't dry out to much.
