how will mergers affect cigars

I was just reading about CAO, Torano, and Olivas factories being bought out by another cigar distributor.

I am curious how this will affect the ongoing growth of each company now that it is no longer headed by the families who have been driving their growth for years?

Will they continue to come out with additional new brands? Will the new company impose their preferences on styles and sizes on these brands that I have enjoyed over the years?

What are your thoughts brothers?

Think this is an excellent question. I am not sure in some of those deals if the fields themselves were purchased or if it was just the brand.

Well I would think and hope that the buyer will keep them as separate entity, that way they can still grow.

Not sure about cigars, in pipe tobacco you see a lot of blends discontinue, and you wonder why did they drop that particular blend.

Torano sold its factories, not its fields, to ST, the same company that recently bought CAO. You can read more about the transaction here: Cigars, Cigar Information and where to find Premium Cigars, Discounted Cigars and even Cheap Cigars - "WE’RE ONLY GOING TO GET BETTER"

Torano already provides the tobacco for CAO in their Nicaraguan shared facility (nowthe CAO facility), so the merger should have no effect.

The Oliva piece, I believe, is not the Oliva that most are familiar with (Serie V, etc), but a smaller outfit in Florida (I could be wrong, but Oliva would have been big news, not a footnote)

I agree, I think it would have been a huge deal if Oliva were purchased.

Heh... When I saw the subject line of this thread I thought it was about the Merger of Club Stogie and CigarLive into Puff... Was thinkin' that such a thing couldn't really affect cigars. Or could it?

The Live Stogie would be a cigar never known before to mankind. How about it Jon???

Sure glad Olivia, the famous ones, haven't changed. They make some of my favourite NC.
