...place for a good smoke?

Where to start...I'm 18, a senior still in high school, and surprisngly I'm sure, I live with my parents. That said, it is difficult to find a place/time to enjoy a smoke.

There's always the porch/patio, but in the winter, that's not the most desirable place to light up. I was just wondering, where do most of you find yourself smoking?

Also, whenever I smoke, my clothes wreak of cigar, and anybody within a 10 ft. radius of me will clearly know I was smoking. Anyway around this?

Smoke weed instead?

Just kidding...you're 18, you're legal to smoke. I assume your parents don't approve. Maybe you should just respect their wishes and wait til you head out to college or move out before you get to deep into the cigars.

Thunder, you had the same problem as I did! I suggest waiting until college, then you will be able to enjoy it much more without the constant nagging of your parents.

Re: ...place for a good smoke?

When I was your age, I smoked in a lot of coffee houses (before the Starbucks Invasion), in cigar stores, in my car, and in my house (lived alone).

If you're going to smoke cigars, you're going to smell like cigars--at least to a degree. If you're that concerned about what other people think of what you do, then maybe a more PC hobby is better for you (or you can constantly bathe in Febreeze ).

Welcome to CS. I hope you learn a whole lot and continue to enjoy your cigars.

Re: ...place for a good smoke?

I found at around 16 or 17 dad and I would smoke together. We'd head out for walks and just talk about what was going on in life. It was a way for him to try and impart some wisdom.

Does your dad ever smoke cigars? Perhaps if you bought him one of your favorites, he'd be a little more open to it. Sure I'm older now, but I still share a good smoke with my old man.

As for places to smoke? Perhaps find a B&M that is open a little later. Drive over and smoke there. Hell. Get a job there. You can smoke and work at the same time and you have an excuse for smelling like a cigar factory.

Hope this helps. Enjoy the experience.

Just wait till college.

When I was in high school, I smoked at cigar lounges. I never had a problem with my clothes smelling like smoke, I just tell my parents I was at a party with smokers.

Are there any cigar bars near where you live? Just like regular bars they may have 18 to chill 21 to spill nights.

Well, no, I don't care that much at all what other people think, except for my parents to an extent.

That's the thing....in conjunction with what croatan was saying...my parents aren't big on smoking at all. My dad doesn't smoke, and so he says, he's never smoked anything. When they found out (about 6-9 months ago) that I smoke(d) cigars, we sat down and had a family talk about it, that kind of thing. The typical "it's not worth the risk", etc. etc. But it's also frustrating, because it's like half of their arguments are ignorant--my dad kept insisting on how I could get lung cancer. I mean, I suppose it's possible, but everytime I told him I don't inhale, that didn't matter. All the smoke apparently still gets to my lungs. I mean, yeah I know my risk of mouth cancer goes up, but it's worth it to me.

Up until recently, I've only smoked Phillies (which I refuse to smoke these days), Black & Milds, Swisher Sweets, etc. Now that I turned 18 (a whopping 4 days ago), I can just grab whatever I want from any local humidors.

Seems like a cool place here...I hope to stay a while.

First of all let me say welcome to CS.Second,I don't mean to sound like anyone's parents but you kinda gotta live by the adage of"if you are under their roof you gotta go by their rules. Why don't you do a little research on the internet and show them that cigars are far less of a health risk than other types of tobaccoo.Maybe their main concern is your health.Just my

I know what you're saying...it's not as much of an "you're not allowed to do it" as it's a "we'd prefer you didn't." Eh, to them whether or not it's less unhealthy than other types of tobacco, it's still more unhealthy than not doing it at all.....meh. haha

Re: ...place for a good smoke?

Maybe your dad could take you out with a box of cigars and make you smoke them all until you vomit, that worked for me with cigarettes! I guess you could just go to a park or a resturant and have a smoke. Otherwise, just live without it.

i was/am in the same boat as you, except just graduated last year. All I did was tell my folks that hey i'm eighteen now I'm somewhat responsible for my own decisions and you have to let me make my own mistakes. They still complain when I come home after smoking about the smell, but other then that they've improved from the "you're killing yourself" argument. Maybe if you tell them it's just a phase since you're only just 18? As for dealing with the smell, I smoke in my car for the most part or at the local B&M down in Oregon. Just make sure to wear a jacket or sweater and a hat, then when you're done peel em off and toss em in the laundry. Using a bit of fabreeze after doesn't hurt either. Main thing is they'll become more accepting over time, and while you need to respect their rule (no smoking i the house etc.) you should still be able to enjoy a smoke.

Re: ...place for a good smoke?

I am quite lucky. I'm 20 and didnt really get started smoking till late 19. But at first my mom really wasnt happy. Especially since it was gas station crap(in my eyes more dangerous and addicting). Now that I smoke nice stuff she doesnt really mind too much. Sorta surprises me a bit really. Like when she let me use her credit card to buy my 100ct humidor(I had to pay her back of course haha). She thought it looked really cool. Also my brothers and I bought her and my stepdad each a cigar to smoke this summer on the pool deck. Stepdad will smoke a cigar every now and then so he should like it. Mom's never smoked. She knows its dangerous but i also think she trusts that we will be responsible and be able to tell if we need to cut back. Oh yeah...the cigar we got her to smoke is the CAO Eilleen's Dream. I'm excited to see how she likes it. So I guess the point of my story is to stick with it if you dont think it'll bring you more trouble and see how it comes out. They might accept it and get interested. Or they might keep getting more mad and more mad. If you're headed down a dangerous slope with them, I'd agree with the fellow BOTL's here and say cut back....do it only on occasions or something. Good luck. And Welcome to CS!
