Humis and their imposters.

I hear alot about different items used as humidors. I wonder what different things have been used as humidors. I know that the styrofoam coolers, tupperware, and now wine coolers are used. What have you guys used.

I used to work for Publix upermarkets years ago and we had a glass case that we needed to get rid of. I took it home and silicones anywhere there was an air leak. Once that smell left, I put a humidifier in it and used it as a humidor. It stayed in a dark area so it wouldnt get too hot, but it worked rather well. So much so that I kept it for many years until I finally moved and it broke.

Personally, I cant recommend the styrofoam coolers. Way to flimsy. I have 92 quart Igloo that I use for bulk storage. Pound of beads and seal and your good to go. there is prep to do on new coolers, though.

I've seen old pie safes and the like, rebuilt to serve many years as a humi. If you can imagine it, with some trial and error, just about anything can work.

I've heard of that being done. Just be careful of the dust from Spanish Ceder. It can do real damage to your lungs. Use a real respirator, not one of those paper things.

The sweetest cabinet humidor I've seen was a 'converted' antique icebox. I keep toying with the idea of betting a reproduction and converting it...

You can go to the army surplus store and buy a cheap amo can with a good seal on it. Line it with cedar, throw in a humidipack and you have a cheap humidor, great for travel!

Squid has been married 26 years, and I can tell you something about wimmin... ALL of them secretly work for the CIA! Your car, office, bathroom and underwear are ALL BUGGED! She'll always know everything you're thinking due to the special "female PSI genetic implants". Save yourself! Never get married!!! <G>
