Leon Jimenes Cameroon 2001 Robusto

Hey B&SOTL, I bought a box of Leon Jimenes robusto cigars with the 2001 Cameroon wrapper, I tried a few at the local b&m and loved them so I had to buy a box.

I can't seem to find much info on these cigars however. I was planning on aging them for at least a year until I opened up the box but I know some cigars shouldn't really be aged too long or they lose the original flavor to a less enjoyable flavor.

Can any of you guys recommend how long I should age these, or for that matter, if I should age them at all?

I'd do it this way: When I get a box of something I am not really sure about, I take one out of the box and put the box away in storage. Let the single rest for a few months then try it. If good the rest will be good also.

I don't know of any cigar where storage time as short as a year will have a negative impact on taste. In certain circles "a year" can't even be mentioned in the same sentence as "aging" as it's considered bad form old boy... <G>

I bought a box of these a couple of years ago. I love these. Nice mild to medium smokes. Great for the money. I started smoking them pretty much right away. I still have a few left.

Age can improve a majority of cigars. From my experience, the medium- to full-bodied smokes have aged very well. I'm not familiar with aging milder cigars, but I would think with the Cameroon wrapper a year or two would make this even better.
I would have to go along with everybody else: leave some out to smoke, bury the box under some others. Then, you'll forget about them, and in a year or two, you will have a pleasant surprise.

Thanks guys, good info!

Bill,
Did you notice any difference between the ones you smoked right away and the ones you have had a couple years now?

Timothy,
Sorry I'm still learning about the whole aging process. I just read a couple days ago that some cigars take around 50 years to age fully!!! I don't think I am that patient, or sure that I will live that long lol

I have been told that a year can make a noticeable difference in the taste of a cigar. I actually had one that I stashed away for about 4 months and it was great. When I tried a new one from my b&m it was completely different!

There are 25 in the box so I think I will wait a couple more weeks, break one out to smoke it, see how it is. If it is good then I will take 5-10 out to smoke now and then and let the rest of the box age for at least a year if not longer...

I just feel bad smoking these because I cannot find anymore online anywhere and my local b&m only got 2 boxes, I bought the only unopened one and they said they didn't know if they would get anymore.

Thanks for the input guys, I love this site!

Hey Bill did you ever give that Robusto a whirl?

I just found a really good deal on a box... about $75 less than what I paid for mine now :mumbles: I'm alittle tight on funds but I feel like I have to grab it because I can never seem to find these anywhere!

I did...I couldnt remember the thread...believe it or not, I did a phone review on it hoping youd pick up on it. Ill tell you...this was not a bad smoke as it had aged. I remember it tasting a little cheaqp and not real friendly when I first smoked it, this time it was very smooth nd creamy and i usually enjoy a more full bodied stick, but this was not bad. For me I would smoke this in the morning.

Age those babys...itll do them justice. Sorry for the delay in this post.
