Maduros-The Longer You Smoke The Better They Get

I have just noticed something about cigars with a maduro wrapper, the longer you smoke them the better the taste seems to get. I have two cigars made by La Finca both are the Fifty-Four robusto size 5" by 54 ring size. One has the EMS wrapper and the other a Maduro. I really enjoy smoking both these cigars, mild, nutty and a little sweet with a great flavor. When I'm smoking the EMS stick they seem to get a little harsh and bitter tasting about two thirds the way up. With the Maduro they start off good and get better all the way to the very end, and I do mean the very end to where I have to put it to rest because there is nothing left to hold on to.

I have noticed this with other Maduros that I have smoked. The only thing I don't like about a Maduro is they don't seem to burn as even as a cigar with a natural wrapper.

Just wondering if most of you experiance the same with Maduros when compaired with most cigars with natural wrappers ?

I haven't heard of a wrapper having an effect on performance, but more on flavor and character. "Maduro" is quite a generalization since a maduro from one company isn't necessarily anything like a maduro from another. I tend to prefer maduros and sungrowns normally myself, however, there are exceptions to that rule.

Maduro's are usually more veiny and toothy compared to a Connecticut Broodleaf, but I don't know about that having an affect on the burn. I usually move more towards a Maduro than the other wrappers. I think it really depends on what I'm picking out to smoke will depend on whether I will grab a natural or maduro.

I usually taste a sweet caramel taste with my maddies.

This is true. You have absolute clarity of thought and you are concise with words.

They not only get better from start to finish, but also from brand to brand, month to month, year to year. Like Indiana Jones you have found the grail and chosen wisely. Any friend of a good maduro is a friend of mine. I suggest you now move on to roasting your own coffee to complete the experience.

The Conn Broad Leaf wrapper is a maduro wrapper. The Conn Shade is a natural wrapper. Most cigars that are properly aged get more intense and more flavorful the longer you smoke them.

There is no correlation with how a cigar will smoke with different wrappers. A natural wrapped cigar will smoke just as good as a maduro if both are properly stored.

Properly stored means a cigar that is kept at consistent temperatures ( 64-68 degrees) and consistent humidity ( 58-65 percent). Cigars that are kept at 70/70 will normally have burn problems because they are too humid.

I have used the following settings( 58-62 percent humidity and 64-67 degrees temperature) for a number of years and my cigars burn and age extremely well.

How do you manage to keep the temp @ 64-67 degrees? Do you have temp control on your storage device? I doubt my family would be happy if I cranked the thermostat down to 65 to to keep the stogies comfy! Do you use a frigador?

The maddie has been my favorite smoke for the last few months now.
I notice with the 5 Vegas 'A' and the Diesel, the flavor just keeps getting more intense.
Another one I reall like and don't hear much about is the LGC Wavell. This one reminds me of hot chocolate.
