Finding Fakes...

Guys, I have never had the opportunity to enjoy one of those cigars from over there.... if you know what I mean... :huh_oh:

I leave for the Philippines on Thursday and was hoping to have my first at a local B&M while there... how do I know if I have the real deal and that I am not just getting ripped off? And, any tips on what exactly to look for? :baffled:

Any words from you more experiences folk is greatly appreciated!

CA has a Counterfeit Gallery with pics of counterfeit bands alongside the real deal. You might want to check it out.

Unfortunately, I found this counterfeit bands gallery AFTER it was too late. I was wondering why those Cohiba's didn't taste right...

The CA link is really nice. And keep in mind if it just doesn't look like a very well made cigar or band stay away!

Anytime you go to a cigar shop in a foreign country, the only way to be sure you're getting the real goods is if they are an LCDH, La Casa Del Habano. I'm not sure of their website. Try googling it, and it will give you a list of all LCDH's in all countries.

I found the site... they don't have anything listed in the Philippines. That is not good.

I think the authority on Fake cigars has to be Moki & Ginseng from www.vitolas.net

He is like CSI for cigars, lots of great content

A Davidoff store would be a safe bet also. Does Davidoff have a shop in the Phillipines ?

Ah, no... but after looking at your avatar, you were there. I was the guy in the black shirt and jeans talking to the owners for a while... I was in the humi while you were picking out your smokes. If you overheard us talking, I was the one talking with them about their desire to adopt a Company of Army soldiers.

Ha! Well, we will have to plan to do that intentionally next time.
