Peoples Reaction to Public Smoking

I thought this might make an interesting topic...Do you folks ever sit back and watch peoples reation to you smoking a cigar in public???

Since I don't smoke inside my house ( my wife of 25 yrs. doesn't share my love of the leaf) I occationally smoke a cigar outside at my local Starbucks.
I try to be polite and aware of other people around me. If children are around I keep my cigar under the table..I try to blow the smoke straight up..I try to sit as far away as I can from the door and other outdoor patrons. I check the wind direction and Drive Thru cars.( I once accidentally blew smoke right into a car's window as they were exiting ..OOPPS).. Most people are cool...Yet I still hear the odd "peeww" or get that scrunched up nose "ewwww" face..

Anyone else have a story similar...or different??

The only public place I smoke a cigar is in a park and then I sit so far away from anyone else they don't even know I am doing it. If I have to constantly worry about hiding the cigar, am I offending anyone, where is the smoke going, etc...that totally ruins the peace and relaxation of the cigar smoking experience for me personally. So I just don't ever do it. In addition, in Arizona you can't legally smoke on the patios of most business b/c they have to be more than 30 ft from any entrance. It's a shame...I would love to be able to do it

I smoke at work and distance myself.. most times by going to the other side of the building...this serves 2 purposes when I smoke I want to relax... I don't want to hear the bitching, whining and moaning about work, customers etc... two... I don't hear the bitching whining and moaning about "oh, god who is smoking a cigar?"... that being said... I do so out of choice... if someone were t comment after coming into my area, phuck them they chose to go there.... what I find most hilarious is these same cigarette smokers throw their lit cigarettes into the chimney type butt disposal system that in turn starts the stash o butts on fire and really sticks up the smoking area (dickweeds) I have actually had a some of my co-workers come up to me and tell me they like the smell of my cigars over the cigarette smoke smell, this came from non-smokers funny enough...

used to smoke cigarettes (34-35 years) and never cared... smoke cigars still don't really care if they bother people.. however their bitching bothers me and I distance myself...

Fortunately, I live in a former cowtown. We even have a bordello museum. People here tend to be pretty tolerant and I have never had any complaints. I was able to smoke a very nice cigar at the public fireworks display and nobody even noticed. We have no city or county smoking regulations at all.

The only complaint I have ever had was from my wife's uncle at a family barbecue. I made the mistake of lighting a cigar about 20 feet up wind of him.

I don't smoke out in public much, except for the park near my work, and that doesn't seem to get anyone worked up. But one of my more notable encounters recently was while I was in one of the major casinos on the strip in Las Vegas. I was on the casino floor smoking a Bucanero Classico Maduro while playing a slot machine. After a while, a 60-ish year old guy who was playing about 10 feet away got up and as he walked by, he thoughtfully expressed his displeasure at the room note of my fine smoke. I think his exact words were, "That goddam thing F'n stinks!". Hearing this, I offered him a friendly gesture - sort of a wave - but missing some fingers. Anyway, this sort of surprised me, I mean, this is VEGAS BABY, not Mayberry. I certainly was not the only one within eyesight smoking a cigar. And, in fact, the casino itself has girls walking around the floor selling cigars and cigarettes. So I can't fathom why he would be surprised, shocked, or insulted that anyone would dare smoke one in his presence.

I went to our Casiono Riverboat last night and had a very nice Tatuaje out on the deck about eleven o'clock. I noticed a few women scrunch up their nose as they walked by. I guess I won't be getting lucky any time soon.

As an epilogue, I will say this. In Vegas I had several very friendly conversations about cigars. One that stands out was a great conversation I had with a African-American brother (of the leaf) and his wife. Instantly, we talked like we were old friends because we shared an interest in fine cigars. I believe he had some sort of cigar he had picked up in Tampa or Miami from one of the street roller type places. So, you can have very positive encounters - I try to remember those and forget the negative ones.

I'll smoke them in a bar from time to time. And I would say if anybody says anything its half and half good vs. bad. If they are really rude about it and I have hed a couple i tend to blow a little extra smoke their way.

I was at a gig recently and during a break I went outside on the patio and the door was very close to the stage. Needless to say the some did come back into the club. Not a word was said, well the waitress came out while I was smoking (on her smoke break) and took a look at me and said "oh that's you smoking the cigar, that smells gooooooooood".

It really pisses me off when someone smoking a cigarette complains about my cigar; and I usually let them know that...

Since I go to school in southern LA, my fiancee and I have annual passes to Disneyland, so we're there a lot, and there are smoking areas in the parks and you can smoke anywhere outside the parks but in the shopping area. I sometimes bring a cigar and have never gotten any negative feedback. I did once smoke outside a Wendy's once and got a few people yelling insults from their cars.

I sometimes smoke my cigars while I walk and push my son in his toddler car around my neighborhood. I sometimes get funny looks by people walking by, but they dont dare to say anything. I would tell them to go fock themselves!

I only go to places that are cigar friendly. I have only had one person make a comment on my cigar in a negative manner. But to their defense it is a friend of mine who constantly gives me shit for fun and vice versa.

I did have one lady give me a LECTURE on "inhaling smoke" and blah blah for about 30 minutes at a dog park once. I was READING Cigar magazine. I kept telling her...I don't smoke cigarettes. I was like WTF. So I told my wife and now she insists on me taking a cigar to the dog park.
