If you save cigars for special occasions or perfect conditions, does that make you a collector? What if you are now under the tyrany of a smoking ban and have no place to smoke your sticks?

There are so many good cigars out there right now and so few places near me to smoke. This has made me appear like a collector but I don't think of myself that way.

At RTDA a couple weeks ago I picked up a bag full of sticks that are incredibly tempting but unfortunately now I'm back in a rainy place without a smoking room...so I guess I'm aging cigars now.

I don't really see the point in collecting cigars. How can you enjoy it if you're not smoking it. Saving for special occasions or just aging is one thing, but to buy for the purpose of just having is strange in my opinion. Or maybe most people are just cigar shopaholics and buy way more than they can consume.

No collection here.... the closest thing would be my buffer of around 150 cigars of varying types.... As others stated preceding me, I fully intend to smoke every last one of them. If I were a multi-millionaire it would probably be a very different story; i would almost surely be collecting then......

Collectibles

I have one of the Partagas 150 humidors (the first one that only 1000 were made) that had 50 Partagas 150 cigars and 100 of the Ramon y Ramon cigars, all with a 28 year old wrapper and those were made about eight years ago. The 150's are all gone but I have 40 of the Ramon y Ramons left. Only 100,000 were made. I'm offering them for $11 to $13 a piece or $400 for all of them (doesn't include the humidor).

I agree with Fozzman. I'm more of an accumulator than anything. My favorite phrase when I step into a B&M humidor is "Oooo, I've been looking for those, let me grab a few." My fiance thinks I have a collecting faster than I can smoke them problem. I always tell her that I'm banking relaxation time. Each cigar I have averages at least 1 hour of relaxation time. I'm up to about 500 hours now!!

well, one can always buy faster than one can smoke. so it seems to reason that really everyone would be a collector of sorts.

That's the trick to age cigars. Buy more than you smoke, and in a couple of years, you'll have some nice surprises.

I don't buy cigars just to collect them. I like to smoke a wide variety of cigars, so my collection is becoming pretty large. By the time I get around to smoke most of cigars, they have a nice amount of aging on them. Also I tend to find some surprises as I find cigars that I didn't realize I had.
