This is a discussion on Anyone spot a fake Cuban? within the General Cigar Discussion forums, part of the The Cigar Lounges at Puff category; 100%, without a doubt, no question, FAKE. It is most certainly NOT a cuban Trinidad. It is pretty funny though. ...

I can usually spot the fakes, especially if it's a Monte, Ramon Allones or a Bolivar. I did have a small collection of fakes I was saving but ended up giving them away as novelties to different people. I gave the last one to Maduro_PiPs. It was cool too, as the band read PARTAG... <G> Found that one in the Virgin Islands. I will note that of the three known fakes I've actually smoked, they all tasted very bad and I smoked less than an inch on each one.

The funny thing about this fake Trinidad is that it had a very thin reddish wrapper on it that looked very nice minus all the bumps and bruises.

Brian, I know the one you're referring to. And your correct, it was as fake as the one above. But the best one was after leaving the herf tonight, we went to another lounge where the owner breaks out his prize possession. You'll never guess what it was. The number one, most recognizable fake of all. That's right folks, the glass top Cohiba lives in Atlanta! I almost fell out of my chair when he takes it out of his locker and parades it across the room to display and hand out sticks. the best part was this one was special, it came with 5 different sizes and several different wrappers! Luckily his clientelle were all dully impressed and it was great watching all of the connoisseurs kick back and enjoy the forbidden fruit. Priceless. |

I was recently in Florida where guys walk down the streets selling fake cubans and even fake non-cubans. It got me thinking. If these guys need the money, we should set up a program to get them to sell good cigars. Then they would be putting good cigars out there and not giving cigars a bad name.
One morning at a cafe outdoors in Miami I was having breakfast when one of these vendors came up to me offering "Cohibas" and I thought to myself, "Self, if this guy had good sticks from Camacho or Oliva, would you buy 'em?" I answered myself, "yes, yes I would" That was the inspiration for this stupid, sarcastic idea - don't take it seriously but it would be nice to get a cigar whenever I wanted one and not having fakes would be good for all of us... |
