Feeling like a wimp

Hello folks, I just got home and was pondering what happens to me when I smoke a cigar past the band. Tonight I pulled out my Oliva Serie G Maduro out of my humi and took it out for a spin.

It was quite enjoyable with a nice even burn, solid white ash, a nice draw I liked, and made plenty of good smoke. I got to about 1 1/2 - 2 inches left in my cigar it knocks me down. I'm buzzing and feeling very lightheaded. Sat around for an extra 20 minutes before I felt I was good enough to drive home. I found this to be the case in the past with the CAO Brazilia, Italia, and some other maduro cigar my friend gave me. I haven't smoke a whole lot so my experience with cigars is limited. And 'No', I only had one beer the entire night so that wasn't a factor. Scary to think of what a stronger cigar might do to me.

I still had a great time with that stick tonight. I'm guessing this happens because all of the smoke trapped in the last portion of the cigar creates a much stronger affect. Perhaps having so little cigar left, there isn't much left to filter anything out?

:mumbles: Am I just a lightweight? It's 3 AM. I hope this is in the right section of the forums.

try a blow out of the cigar when you get about half of it smoked, IE , BLOW through the cigar , not drawing in, , take a deep breath & blow it all out , keep exhaling till you cant see straight , let the buzz pass & then draw on the cigar, that will clear out all the Good stuff that gives you the buzz

You may want to enjoy the mild to medium body stuff ... and work your way to the more full body stuff. Some cigars are just strong base on what they are made of. I have seen ligero cigars like the Oliva Serie V and the La Flor Dominicana stuff put the best of them to bed. Old timers and new guys alike. Enjoy the flavors of the lighter stuff, then move around to the other stuff. Oh yeah and pick the right cigar for the situation ... I you know the stronger stuff really works on you. You may want to smoke those at home before hitting the sack. You don't want to end up lying on a sidewalk somewhere. lol

I had a Davidoff 100th Anniversary Diademas do this to me recently. Great cigar with a great buzz. Learn to enjoy them, they will be few and far between in the future. In the mean time stay in the medium bodied line for now. Let the full bodied age.

Lightweight! Just kidding... Probably had low blood sugar. When you first notice the buzz coming on, take some sugar or a soft drink with sugar in it. It will counteract the nic kick.

I've heard that before, but I think I was turned off on mild cigars when the first mild cigar I tasted no different than a cigarette. Sadly it was just very very plain and I was kind of turned off on it. I'll give it another shot.

I was at a friendly card game so worst case would have been sleeping on my friends couch... and waking up with permanent ink marks all over my face.

I will definitely try this... perhaps keep a soda in my nubby recovery kit.

Hmmm, I really don't want to purge my cigar if it's not tasting bitter. I'd rather not ruin the intended taste of the cigars, but if I find this buzz to be a problem for me with the cigars I like I'll give it try. Until then, if you need me I'll be the guy sitting down spacing out.

Sounds like the verdict is in... "Hello, my name is Hamaki... and I'm a lightweight."

Well, I'm going to continue my fun filled weekend and take two sticks with me. I've chosen the 5 Vegas Gold I got from a sampler and give that mild cigar a try during the day and a RP Edge for later tonight to put me to sleep. hoohoo:

You might also need to hold or set that cigar down for a minute (or even half a minute) between puffs. Smoking too fast is an easy thing to do. This also often improves the flavor of the cigar, because it burns cooler. I like to have a good ashtray around so I can set the cigar down periodically.

Next time you should just get smashed and have a cigar. This way, if you get knocked over by the stick, you can blame it on the booze. Problem solved. MDD.
