The Letter I received First off, welcome to Cigar Live. Second, I recently had the experience of trying a Juke from Avalon. I apologize to say, but my experience was absolutely horrible. The smell of the smoke made my buddies leave the room and they were completely put off by the aroma from the smoke. The taste was completely off, too. I thought it may have been an anomoly and a fluke problem with the one cigar, but when I tried another this morning, I had the same experience. The acrid flavor left in my mouth was awful and the smell made my wife leave and I had to drop it after less than 1/2 inch. I assured each, my wife and friends, that each of the cigars was a fluke and that I'd try and get others to turn them back onto Avalon. Strong, full flavor, cigars are nothing new to any of us and they were stored for 2 months at 68 degrees and 66% humidity, so that wouldn't have been the problem. I love your website and would love to give my friends a better review. Please let me know if the Juke and other Avalon cigars have an acquired taste or if that's the way they are. Thanks a bunch, Joey "Bear" Wright My Response Joey, You fall into the 60% category that doesn't like the Juke Blue. The other 40% are like religious converts. The smell is like a BBQ grill with a load of steaks, the taste you experienced is probably because you were put off by the smell. The Juke Blue is the only cigar in our line that has that specific treatment. All of the rest are traditional and I think you would like them much more. I would suggest that you try a Honeyboy or a Pinetop. If you don't like either one of them, let me know and I'll send you a replacement (made by someone else) out of my personal humidor. His Response Tom I really appreciate the pm. Thanks for getting back to me. I don't have a B&M that carry Avalons near me, so I probably won't get a chance to try your recommendations, but I will keep them in mind. As far as unique, I'd say it was the barbequeish aroma that was the big turn-off. Joey And Finally, My Last Reply Joey, Our reps are getting new B&M accounts opened all over the country every day. Hopefully we will have one near you soon. In the meantime, you can go to www.seriouscigars.com if you want to try another one. Tom __________ I thought I was being polite and nice. Oh well...

The honeyboys are good. The Juke's I haven't gotten around to yet.
The black dragon IMO was a good cigar. Nothing GREAT but nice in the robusto size. I think the larger sizes are a bit too much. IMO I definitelydid not have the dirt/earthiness. It had a nice smooth flavor with a light sweetness. Been a while but it was nice. |

Sometimes it just depends on when and where you have the cigar. I had a CAO Brazilia and thought it was the worst cigar ever. Two weeks later I had my second while outside on the porch with some of my friends, combined with a good scotch, and really enjoyed it. I would at least give it one more shot.

First off I want to say that my whole goal in creating this site was to make a positive place. I am not saying that people should not state thier opinions. I do however feel that the topic of this thread is something that I do not want to start a trend on this forum. Take that stuff somewhere else.
People like different kinds of cigars. This is why there are so many manufacturers trying to find what taste are most enjoyed. Like I said, I am not going to start having these sorts of threads on CigarLive.com. As for trashing Avalon, that is not going to start happening either. I personally do not smoke flavored cigars. If you bought something you did not like then take it as a loss. No one gaurantess you will like a cigar. That is sort of the point in trying other cigars. .............................. One last thing, I come on the forum to enjoy what I read and I enjoy learning about cigars. I do not like to come on and see negativity on the topic of the thread. If any moderator sees this sort of thread start up please send it straight to the waste basket.

http://www.cigarlive.com/forum/t4830...acco-katy.html I have smoked about three others, in two different sizes and I thought they were very well constructed and the draw on the sizes I tried was excellent. I loved the flavor and the amount of smoke they produced. This is my opinion...I like them.

I picked up four of the 601 Oscuro Green for you but only two made it past the night. I smoked one and gave another to Dan Richmond to try. I will bring the other two to you next time I see you.

I have had it... don't see anything spectacular about it. Just another Gurkha line trying to make it by on the coattails of some of their better lines... I won't buy them again... I got tricked into purchasing two of them and find I like others a lot better.

Daniel, I am curious if they are similar in flavor to the Gurkha Black Puro. Have you ever had one of those?

Sorry Im comming into this so late, but I wonder the motivation of the trashing of any company because of the cigar you smoked. The beautiful thing abou tthis industry and the smokes we enjoy is that first and foremost were are gentlemen. I have experienced generosity, factual reporting, very interesting and necessay dialogue beween consumers, manufacturers and retailers. Thats what this is all about. Your opinion of the cigar is valued, but do a review. Let us know specifics about the stick and what you did or did not like about it. But understand that your opinion is your opinion and thats it. There are obviously many that like and buy those sticks regularly. Be aware of those your trashing and those who enjoy a particular smoke that you trash may also take some offense in your approach and gain nothing in your opinion because you didnt do a review with detailed info. Save the trash talk...there are many other sites that welcome it.

I'm going to edit my top post because apparently it is worded wrong along with people seem to skip over my replies. The tittle is probably a bit too harsh.
I'm not trashing the company. I even stated I like some of their stuff. I'm saying that I wrote probably the worst review I've ever given a cigar. Granted I'm still holding off on it because I want to smoke another one before I write it. If i can bring myself to. I just got some terrible flavor combinations off of it. I'm hoping it was a fluke. The flavors I got off this cigar actually gave me a headache.
