Cigar storage question ?

Does anybody store there cigars in the plastic bags ? I stored my fivers in there plastic bags (left bags open) that they came in and when I went to check on them they were over humidified (I lost one due to swelling) . I took them out of the bags and let them settle back in the cooler, I came back about 6 hours later and all was like it never happen. Thank god I check on them that day or this could of got ugly . I think its time for the 2 way beads, I think if I would of had them this would of not happen .

Re: Cigar storage question ?

From reading these boards here, I got excellent info about storing my cigars. You can use a plastic bag for boxes but, the storage type with some kind of humifiying medium in the bag. They suggest also, tupperware containers but, next to a regular humidor, the best for large amounts of cigars is a cooler (aka...coolerdor). Read through the threads here, and you get some really helpful suggestions. Good luck.

If I'm reading you right, you're keeping cigars in baggies inside your cooler. I do the same thing. Haven't had a problem. My cooler is at 67% RH using only beads.

I do the same thing to save space. I have very few boxes in my coolidor. I only keep the ones I age in boxes. The rest goes in plastic bags that are left open. I have never had a problem. I use a Oasis set on 65% unit but have used standard crdo type units as well. RJT

Re: Cigar storage question ?

Thanks guys ,Im using the same set up as RJT a cooler with the oasis , The oasis is a new toy and has only been in there for a few days . Ill leave everything alone for a few days and start over again with the plastic bags ,Im glad to here people are using them cause it makes my live easier and saves me space .

Should the oasis take out humidity if it gets to high ? I thought from reading the directions that it said it takes out humidity. Because Im sure its only putting in the humidity .

Re: Cigar storage question ?

I don't have an Oasis, but from what I've read, I think it may...i know beads will suck humidity back in if it gets to high. As for the swelling stogie, it may have been waaaay to low on humidity when you put it in. Because if you take a dry cigar and reintroduce it into humidity too fast it'll swell like that. Just my . Good luck.

I think your on to something here , the sticks were from an order from the devilsite this week . They were pretty dry and I did just throw them it to the humi at about 68 % rh .

Re: Cigar storage question ?

I personally would not store my cigars in plastic bags or plastic containers.
I store all my cigars in boxes in my cabinet.
