Re: Big Contest! Big Payoff! 15 Questions 'Cars, Guitars & Cigars'

1. This Car company is named after the "founder" of Detroit, Michigan

Cadillac

2. This car company was the first to offer; Inclosed Bodies, Generators, Batteries, Electric Lights, Starters and finally the V8 engine platform.

Rolls-Royce V8 Legalimit (1905-1906) was the first to introduce the V8 engine, but not the other items. Caddy's first V8 was 10 years later but they introduced electric starter in 1912, etc. So the answer is probably Cadillac.

3. Since 1995 this Car has won the most World Ralley Car championships, with 4

Manufacturers are tied at three each for Citroën Xsara, Peugeot 307 and Subaru Impreza WRX. The driver's championship was won 4 times by Tommi Mäkinen driving a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. Damned nice car, by the way and should be the correct answer.

4. The worlds largest car ever in production at 19 feet

Hmm ... the Bugatti Royale was the world's longest production car according to one web site. Another says its the 1996 CADILLAC FLEETWOOD BROUGHAM coming in at 18.75 feet. Round up? Somebody else says the 1970 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible was the longest production automobile ever built. I see a length of 5.72M on a French web site which converts to 18.77 feet .... just longer than the Caddy. Who to believe? I'll give it to the Eldorado.

5. This team has the most F1 Constructors Championships (and how many...)

Ferrari won 14

1. in 1950/51Leo Fender designed this guitar as the worlds first commercially successful solid body, electric guitar.

Broadcaster

2. The Guitar above's name was changed to what and due to what reason

Telecaster ... trademark belonged to another company. Brother in law has a telecaster... nice.

3. Name a song that uses the Heil Talk Box

Frampton? Pussy. Here is Joe Walsh singing Rocky Mountain Way with one.

4. What does Mary Ford have to do with Gibson Guitars

She was Les Paul's wife and had hits with "Mockin' Bird Hill" where Les played in the background. The Les Paul of 1952 is essentially unchanged today and is a hugely successful guitar. T'was a solid body that Gibson had already developed but wanted Les to launch it since he was on top of his game at the time. Mary had a number of hits with Les's Gibson in the background.

5. What made jazz legend Jango Reinhardt so special and respected

He couldn't control all of his fingers so had to make do .. yet he was a kick ass guitar player who influenced the likes of BB King, etc.

1. President Kennedys cigar gathering (and loving) press secretary:

Pierre Salinger

2. The gentleman above was sent out on the eve of the Embargo signing to acquire at least 1,000 of this cigar for President Kennedy

H. Upmann Petit Upmann

3. What was the name of the Native Americans version of the modern cigar?

Sikar was the myan word for tobacco, but lets lopok at what Columbus saw in his own words.

http://www.worldwideschool.org/libra...als/chap5.html

These mosquetes, as we should call them, they call tobacos. I knew Spaniards on this Island of Hispaniola who were accustomed to take them, who, on being reproved for it as a vice, replied that it was not in their power (in their hand) to leave off taking them. I do not know what savour or profit they found in them." This is clearly a cigar.

So you could make a case for either sikar or tobaco. Columbus says they are called tobacos ... so thats good enough for me as there are no eyewitness accounts of the pronunciation of the Mayan word.

4. In the early 1600's this Tsar condemned tobacco users to death (in 1634 the same Tsar would revise the rule taking the punishment down from death to slitting the smokers nose with a knife)

Tsar Michael Romanov of Russia

5. This month is famous for the beginning of the harvest. Vegureos sow tiny seeds in to carefully monitored beds and watch them for about a month, until the strong plants are transferred to growing fields.

We have our winner!!!
"Probably Cadillac" riiight Sean??? Congrats Sean, you tore this one up I choose a bad day to sleep in! my God 10 hours later and 4 pages in, here i am to clear some things up!

First of all, you all deserve something for your efforts, this was a tough one.

One quick note- the World Ralley Car question, I made a mistake. I thought i was looking at WRC Champions from 1995 when i was actually looking at the WRC Ralley de France winners since 95 (which would have made Subaru a 4 time champion). I foragve this question to all, since i asked for CAR not DRIVER and thus it really is a tie.

So heres the answers one more time....

1. Cadillac
2. Cadillac (oldmobile designed the V8 and handed it over to Caddy, making Cadillac the first car company to commercially/mass produce a car with a V
3. oops! 3 way tie, all answers accepted (except Ford Escourt... )
4. Cadillac produced the longest car of all time (that was in a commercial/mass market). While Sean didnt nail the excact car, nobody else did either and Sean was able to at least name the correct manufactorer. The car it self was any of the 1959 Cadillacs (Deville, Eldorado etc- all had the same excact body with variying amounts of doors, chrome and hard/softtops) the car is excactly 19 feet (my wife has one to prove it!)
5. Ferrari won the Constructors Championship 14 times

Guitars...
1. Broadkaster (spelling varies)
2. Gretsch already had a set of drums with that name (copy right infringment) so it was changed to the Telecaster
3. Smooth Emotion- Aerosmith, Rocket Queen- GnR as well as songs by Alice in Chains, Frampton, Walsh and now Velvet Revolver (Slash once again) If you play guitar, i highly reccomend! this thing (though its a little sloppy) is so much fun
4. She was married to Les Paul and performed with him, Les Paul invented Gibsons best selling guitar line- the Les Paul (made popular by Joe Perry, Jimmy Page & Slash)
5. Django was able to adapt to his burn injuries and play some of the fastest and most impressive Jazz guitar with only 2 fingers

Cigars...

1. Pierre Salinger (featured in Cigar A-fish a few times, recently passed away)
2. H. Upman Petit Upmans (Coronas). He requested 1,000, Salinger brought him 1,200 (nice googleing there everyone!)
3. Tobaco. Originally i thought the anwer was Musket, then when i looked it up for this quiz i saw Musket is what the explorers called cigars when they saw them and the Natives called them simply Tobaco or Tobac. They were very large, very acidic cone shaped cigars that made the Natives generally pass out.
4. Tsar Michael. Mike obviously picked up the habbit some years into his ruling of Russia... why else would he lower the punishment by so much
5. September. Im glad everyone found this one okay... it does change depending on the Country but Cuba goes by September.

so there we go! whew! SeanGar you rock, PM me your address!

WTG Sean! Sorry I couldn't 3peat it, I just got done with class and stuff, and saw this contest. If I'd been up at like 4AM as usual, I could have gotten it done before anyone else even saw it!
