They are fakes but they are actually pretty good. Most cigar shops got a memo from the real Cohiba company saying that if they caught them selling these then they would close out their accounts.

The yellow band Cohiba's are fakes.
They are bad and the company making them got sued.
The biggest reason I know this is that the store I work for
had a direct account with the company who was distributing them.

Something about a bundled Cohiba just SCREAMS "knockoff"!!! Louder than a glass-top box of esplendidos...

I got 3 boxes of these a few years ago - yes they were cedar boxes with the DR tax sticker/seal on them. They are not a bad smoke, and from what I gather the result of a copyright dispute that was going on at the time. I've still got some if you want to give them a shot - just PM me.

The ones in the boxes are actually quite different than the ones Big Dog distributed.

All non-ACuban "Yellow Band" COHIBA cigars are counterfeits

Consistent with some of the comments made above, I can assure the original poster that all "yellow band" COHIBA cigars from the D.R. are counterfeit and illegal in the United States.

Essentially, the importers and distributors of these cigars buy cheap bundle sticks which would ordinarily cost $15.00/bundle, place a "COHIBA" band on the cigars and repackage them in bundles or slide top boxes. They then mark the cigars up 300-400% and try to trick less knowledgeable consumers into buying the cigars based solely on brand recognition.

Although I can't share specific details regarding my clients, I have spent the past 3 years helping tobacco companies locate and shut down these infringers/counterfeiters. Thankfully, we have had some great successes. Still, the counterfeiters are tricky and will pop back up from time to time. Do yourself a favor and avoid overpaying for a poor product based on a brand name. You would be better off buying three decent bundles of naked handmade cigars! Same quality, if not better, and lower prices.

If anyone has any questions/information/concerns regarding counterfeit cigars (non-Cuban, of course), feel free to email me at StopCounterfeitCigars@gmail.com
