Whats the skinny on the D.R. Cohiba Yellow band
So i was in this little wine store and they had a humi on the counter... i had to do a double take because there were what appeared to be 5 or 6 cuban yellow band cohiba just sitting there. My first thought was that it was a shitty counterfeit job; instead of squares, the band had dots, and there were 3 over the word 'Cohiba' instead of 2... not to mention we're in the good ole U.S. of A. so an ISOM sitting on the counter is just out of the question. But the band said "republica dominicana" under the word Cohiba. Now i have heard of a Dominican yellow band cohiba that would have a similar appearance to this, but i was under the impression that those were sold exclusively in the Dominican Republic, and even then, i'm not sure the exact differences between the bands on those and the ones on the cuban cohiba (i know the number of dots over the word cohiba is different, but thats about it). Anyrate, i picked one up for curiosity's sake and so i could look at the band better. It smoked pretty good, nothing to write home about, but decent. The guy who owned the place said he really didn't know anything about cigars, so i'm wondering what the deal is here... is his cigar guy (whoever it is) ripping him off, trying to rip off customers that will pick up the cigar just because it looks similar to the ISOM cohiba, or is this a perfectly legit thing? If not, should i tell the guy? I would have called him on it last night had i not run across mention of the fabled D.R. yellow band cohiba some while ago, so i'm thinking it might be legit. But the band looks shady either way, the top row of dots has the very top edge cut off, they aren't full circles because of the way the band is cut, and the font looks bolder than any instances i've run across of supposedly legit D.R. yellow band cohibas.

i live in canada, i have all different types of cohibas, dominician and cuban. but none fit that description of the label. the cohibas that i have, all there bands are very consistant and very appealing.

Have you ever seen a Yellow band cohiba, like the cuban kind, but from the D.R.? if you have those up there, will you post a pic of the band? I'm not talking about red dot cohibas.

I have never seen a Yellow band cohiba from outside of Cuba, it sounds like those might be knock-offs.

they definitely aren't cuban.... this much i'm sure. I've only run across mention of a D.R. yellow band on two other forums, not many people have heard of them... i'm hoping someone here knows for sure that they are real (and what they look like) or knows for sure that they are fake and that this is some kind of hoax. like i said, the ones i've heard of are supposedly only sold in the D.R.

So even if the yellow band i saw is legit, it technically not legal in the US because of copyright infringement laws... hmm...

From what I remember, there USED TO BE a yellow-band Cohiba for sale here. Lawyers got involved, copyright infringement, etc & they had to remarket them with new bands - resurrected as the Red Dot Cohibas, if memory serves.
But we're talking YEARS ago - 6? 8? If they're from before the lawsuit, they oughtta be WELL aged by now. If they're new, they're knockoffs.
