It looks like it was covered. Here is another idea, go yo your B&M and buy some good quality empty boxes. If you don't buy by the box now then it is good to store singles in.
Good luck

One thing that can also be done with any cedar lining in a humidor or coolidor is remove the cigars, lightly sand the surface, remove the dust by blowing out or vacuuming, replace the cigars and enjoy the fresh cedar smell
hoohoo: hoohoo:I do this every couple of years to my Aristocrat Plus. I lightly sand the drawers, dividers and lining. It also cleans up the finish by removing any stains or dark spots left on the wood that accumulates from the oils/dirt on your hands - brightens up the unfinished wood and makes it look new again. What ever you do, don't put those ceder chips in your coolerdor. They will ruin your cigars. Rockler as suggested is a good source of Spanish ceder. If you make shelves with the Spanish ceder or cut any of it, wear a dust mask and be in a well ventilated area. Spanish ceder is very irritating to your lungs. Also be aware that it toxic as well.

Woah there, Hoss...
The reason you use cedar is for its ability to hold humidity. The reason you use Spanish Cedar is because it produces less odor than other cedars. You do not want the odor being imparted into the cigars. They have their own taste and aroma. Over time the cedar will pick up some of the sweet aromas of the cigar, but don't look for a huge "cedar" odor. |

The slight imparting of the spanish cedar aroma into the cigars is why it is the choice for cigar boxes, cigar sleeves, humidors etc. I, myself like the slight mixing of the cedar with smell of the tobacco.....which is why I "freshen" up my humidor from time to time. But as in cigars, women, wine and song...to each his own! Mark |

Follow what you like...
That's the great thing I'm learning about Cigars, it's about what you like. If you like flavored cigars go for it, if you like heavy cedar...great, if you like light or no cedar...hey that's all good to. My suggestion is start out light and then increase as you want to try things out, and experiment. I'm doing some of that myself in ordering a BUNCH of cheap 20 cigar humi's from the devil site where i'll be trying differing levels of humidity to see where I like them. Same can go for cedar. I think the general consensus is to avoid standard cedar like you find in moth prevention because they are overpowering to everything else. As an example I have a red cedar chest I keep my great grandmothers hand made quilts in. Keeps the insects out but after a week of storage in there the smell of cedar is quite strong. And that chest is over 30 years old...with no 'recharge'.

I wouldn't worry about not getting much of a cedar odor. I personally don't think blenders depend on cedar odors or flavors "improving" their cigars. Some cigars might benefit, but certainly not all of them. If the humidity is holding, the cedar is doing its job. The job of a humidifier is to hold a steady environment, not to impart flavors into your cigars.
Granted, this is my opinion, but I have to say it's a very very strong opinion. |
