It really is strange how so many different cigars smoke well at different %
I have cigars that will crack and explode at lower RH but I have cigars that don't want to burn at 70%. It hard to keep them at different levels but I pull it off. |

I was keeping my stash at 70% when I first started smoking cigars and I swore by it. Then I got some 65% heartfelt beads and have not looked back. I smoke mainly cubans (as that is basically all I can get in Singapore) and they burn much better and taste sensational at 65.

My desktops are at 65% and coolidors for aging generally 60-63%. As mentioned, the burn is better, but primarily the cigars taste a lot better, less bitter, more complexity coming out. When I feel I have a cigar that is too wet, unless I feel have to smoke it right then, it gets dry boxed for several days. No humidification at all in the dry box. Any empty cedar box will do.

I started out with the florist's foam humidifier that came with my desktop, that evened out at about 70% RH, but I had burn issues and uneven smoking cigars. Since I changed over to 65% beads my humi stays at around 62-65% and the cigars have been much more consistent in burn since.

I see that most people prefer 65%. I used to store and smoke at 65%. Several months back I bumped my desktop up to 70%. The cigars just seem to smoke cooler and they seem to taste and burn better. I would occasionally have a wrapper start to unwrap. That seems to have stopped as long as I let the cigars sit at 70% for a couple of weeks before I smoke them. Maybe the dry air in Denver has something to do with it.

Is this the same during the more humid months as well? (eg do you find 70% better during the summer as well). ~Mark |

That's a good question. Last Summer I was at 65%. I'll have to see if it makes a difference, but it's always dry out here.

65% with Beads is the ONLY way to go....
You will mainly notice the Diff with Corojo/Crillo Wrapped Cigar's. They TAKE OFF at this humidity!!! I use nothing but the beads and have NO REASON to change........Only problem I have is winter months in Northern WV, they do need to be check on much more frequently due to the dry heated air in the house.... |

I made the switch from 70% to 65% as well. I am loving the results ... my smokes burn so much more evenly now. They also light up quickly and have a more balanced flavorful taste. I think I'm at 65 to stay.

Hey Mark. How are ya? The CO humid times are usually short lived. Rh is usually between 20% and 40%.
