65% vs. 70%

well the beads are in order. they are more consistent than my la veil unit of humidication. for my 300 count i have a half pound of the heartfelt 65%. i charged them up and dropped them in and have not had to mess with them in the week and a half since i have had them. they are great. i went from 70+% to a low 65% average. i notice a lot of difference when lighting and smoking them at this lower humidity percentage. i am surprised about it actually. they light up quicker. they have a more stable burn that is easier to ash. i do not have to relight half as much, even with the padillas.the cigars have a tangier taste. their flavor profile has changed. it is an interesting change for the collection.how many people notice that a change in humidity levels equates to a different smoking experience?

What was the humidity on the Egg?? HA

Anyway, I have never really been able to tell, I've been lucky to keep my cigars at 67% so I have never had to find out. might be an interesting experiment...

I had a noticeable change when I went from keeping the humi at 70-75% using PG to 63-68% using the 65% beads. I like the 65% bead method much better. Smoother burn, and I think I can actually taste more of the suttle nuances with the lower humidity.

And I've only had the beads for about 2 weeks.

I noticed the thick wrappers on VSG, Opus, etc.. burn MUCH better at 65%, and better flavor too.

I keep my humi around 64%-65%. I think all cigars taste a bit better as well as age better a slightly lower %. I notice the biggest difference in Cuban and Nicaraguan tobacco!

I switched over to 65% beads about 6 months ago. It turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made. I have not had any burn or draw problems since.

Thanks for the info. I have been hovering about 70% with not really too many problems but I will let it go leaner to 65%.

This is a fact. There are many burn issues at 70% or more with thicker wrappers. A Power Ranger stored at 65% is pure heaven.

I had been reading about 70/70 everywhere. My humi dropped down to the 60-65 RH range and I found they lit and burned MUCH better. It's nice to learn my experience seem to be in line with that of real people.

I'm entirely in agreement with everyone else's take. My end table humidors are both at 67% and pretty stable (though I really must change to the beads).

I also have a dry box which runs 62-65%. I dry box everything that gives me a consistent burn issue + any Opus I scoop up because I read that the Fuentes recommend low RH for them. The dry boxed stuff is pretty much what you'd expect -- Tat Cojonu '03s, Tat Reds, all the Pepin stuff that begs for low RH. And they do burn better after a while in the dry box, though I'd bet they could weather even lower, like 60-63%.

So has anyone else been brave enough to conduct a longer-term experiment at well below 65%, like in the 60-62% range?
