Oregon Scientific

I came across these units on Cigarmony and was wondering if the units were a good alternative to the tiny hygrometers you get for 20 bones. It'd be nice to have the remote units with a central unit so I can see what's going on in my fridge and other humi's without having to constantly open them. Has anyone tried these and liked them? MDD.

I have four of 'em including the Oregon Scientific and it's the third most accurate. It's low by about three to four percent. I have a Ratshack, a Western Caliber (most accurate) and a Springfield also. YMMV.

Same thing, the one I was looking at has a central unit you can put up to a hundred feet from the censors, which are placed in different humidors and you can monitor the temp and RH without cracking the box. MDD.

Yup, mine can read three remote sensors but I just have the one right now that measures temp/humidity inside my coolerdor. No way to calibrate. I used the salt test to get a read on how much my hygrometers err.

The salt test is really the only way to check the accuracy of those units. Its's easy and simple to make the correction when you read it. Check the specs on it to see what the accuarcy is. They have different models that may have slightly different + limits. I looked at some high end units that were very accurate, but concluded it wasn't worth the cost.

The hygroset are the only calibratible ones to my knowledge. Salt works OK but I like to use the Bovita bags before I bought a digital meter to calibrate.

I believe that the Bovedas use salt (moist sodium chloride) within a permeable membrane, so it amounts to the same 75.5% either way.
