Thompson Brands

When I first began this hobby not too long ago, I was introduced to the Thompson website. Not knowing anything to the contrary, and wanting to expand my knowledge of cigars and available smokes I ordered a few premiums and a couple of samplers. One of the samplers included some Thompson brands cigars, and I found a few of them to be very good; I also found a few to be dog rockets. The ones I found very good follow:

Dona Ines sold in sizes from Coronas to Churchhills. Made with Dominican and Honduran long leaf with ligero; wrapper can be sumtran or Maduro (I've only had the sumatran wrapper)

Manolete - very good smoke. I don't recall specifics about it but, the taste was good. Comes in coronas through Churchill sizes

Tusker - a newly added brand to their lines, and a good smoke

Each of the above are priced accordingly too. While not as much as premiums; they are cheaper per box but, as good as some boutique sticks from top shelf makers.

I have a box of Dona Ines that has been resting for a couple of months. I had one this past Saturday and it is coming along nicely.

I haven't smoked many of the Thompson brands nor do I have any intention of doing so, but, in fairness, they are not all bad smokes.

most of the legends aren't that good. the best i've tried so far is the orange, which i believe is made by Indian Tabaq.

Re: Thompson Brands

In some cases the 'house' brands are made by the same factories that produce other name brand smokes. Our most recent show has reviews of the Habanos Puros Mixed bundles from mrbundles.com. A very affable, quality smoke with an excellent price point (less than $2 each). We also have an interview with Mike Banks (Uncle Mikey) from MrBundles and he talks about the cigars and how they are made etc.

Many 'house' brands offer excellent value as an everyday smoke. I encourage you to try others. The Famous Cigars Nicaraquan 3000's have a very good reputation as well.

Re: Thompson Brands

Im glad to hear something good about some of the thompson house brand cigars.

I was always be told, if you buy a humidor at Thompsons youll have to throw away the sticks because they are junk. That always kept me picking some up to try.

I'll have to order a few sometime. Ill keep the ones you mentioned in mind.

Thanks for the heads up.

Thompson's Old Jamaican brand is a sneak up on you flavored cigar I always get the Tranquillo vanillas which are dynamite at a great price. A good cutting the lawn or just chillin smoke.

Re: Thompson Brands

I've tried a few of the THompson's house brands, and they all tasted the same...bad. Double that for the JR Alternatives. They are cheap enough that to try them won't set you back, but don't get your hopes too high. Just My Experience.
