Cool Colibri Lighters-Class or Pain in the A%#

Has anyone else had the same erratic experience with Colibri??

Half of mine don't work-sometimes they crap out right out of the box--Mostly the lighter sparks but the flame won't hold-sort of sputters-I'm continually sending them back to be fixed at $6 a pop--I use the best butane my B&M sells-triple filtered etc etc But to no avail

Is there a market in factory seconds or rejects that I keep coming across??
I got a few on cigarbid--also half were duds

I've talked to some cigar smoking buds and they tell me a similar tale of breakdowns and factory fixes--Whats the story with your experience????

I had a Colibri Firebird. It was great for a while but it was so erratic it got to be a real pain when it came to the time to light up that it detracted from my enjoyment. I replaced it with a Blazer ZPlus insert for my zippo and haven't looked back since.

I have had three different Colibri lighters and they work fine. The one bad thing is after a few hours of not using it it takes two clicks to get it going. I only use Vector or Lava fuel and bleed and refill upside down with the flame control turned to low. I am a little anal and after every light blow on the burners to dislodge any ash.

My Dad had one stop working but it was mostly a bad filling technique and dirt in the burners. Since it wasn't working anyway I got kind of drastic with it and blasted it with WD-40. I held the lighter upside down while I sprayed to let the clog come out. After a few blasts, it would actually light again but flickered a little. At least it didn't go in the garbage.

Not a Colibri fan. I bought one when I first started smoking. I don't use it anymore. I have a Xikar lighter that works way better.

Been there, done that, never again will I buy Colibri. Right now I am using a cheapo single-jet that I got from my B&M for $7. So far it has lasted longer than any Colibri that I've owned. I am really hard on lighters or something... I have been looking at the Xikar lighters as well simply due to the fact that they are guaranteed for life.

Yep, I have the same thing going on. I have 4 Colibri's 2 work fine, one's marginal and a pain in the arse, and one's dead. I was just at the B&M yestderay complaining about them. I'm going to try a couple of things like purging the fuell again and trying non-Colibri fuel. If that doesn't work I'm going to sh#t-can em and try sometihng else. I also found they don't work too well in colder temps.

I just sent back my ST Dupont (serviced by Colibri). I was not impressed with their service.

I've had a few Colibri's. You have to use triple refined butane. The cheap stuff will clog for sure. I get those cheap triple burner jobs that are 3 for $20. If I lose it I don't feel as bad.

I usually don't like to come here and slam manufacturers. But I never miss a chance to rip Colibri. I've had a few, and they've all been junk. I'll never buy another.

I have a couple Colibri's and they are so/so. I really loved my first one until it started getting sporadic, which seems to happen to a lot of people. I tried one of those Blazer torches a while back and that thing was sick - they work great.

And have a cool click sound too!

Pain in the ass! I've only had one but I've had nothing but problems with it from the beginning. It never wants to suck up the butane when I try and refill it, The flame setting is so low it makes it hard to light my sticks even though I have it cranked all the way up to the highest flame setting. Just frustrating. Not pleased with them.

Pete--Exactly--

try to fill it and it won't take the proper refill--the h/L setting is zilch

I have to agree with Pete as well. They may look nice but not worth it to me.
