Monte #2. Uneven burn

Hi,
This afternoon I smoked a Monte #2. This was the second one that I have ever smoked and I was very dissapointed with the uneven burn. I found even the first one which I smoked about two weeks ago had the same uneven burn. I wanted to try the second just to see if I had a bad one the first time. Problem was they came from the same box at the Tobacconist. For $27.00 a stick its a little disheartening. I also noticed that the veins of the leaf protuded almost pushing against the wrapper. This is what probably caused the uneven burn.
Is it normal for the Monte#2 to have such a rough wrapper?
My neighbour came over a little while ago to drop off 3 Monte #4's which he bought for me in Puerto Vallarta. $30.00 US for the 3. Examining these, I did not see such a rough wrapper on them. I know its a different wrapper with a different taste. Maybe I'll be buying #4's for a while, here they cost $21.00 a stick.
Cheers
Clive

I'll take a look at the Diplomatico's #2, next time I am at the B & M. It's too bad the Monte #2's burn unevenly as I really like the cigar's taste.Cheers

Monte's are famous for production problems. However, the wrapper is not usually rough.

Never had a burn problem with the Monte 2; for me, always a great cigar.

For those that can legally buy them, PM me and I will pass on my vendor; around $12 per stick.

Clive--

Sorry BUt you might have some Monte fakes--Probabl;y 90% of Cubans are not from the real factory--Even in Cuba fakes are rampant

Funny about the fake thing. I was at the B & M where I bought the cigar and spoke with the owner. He showed me some of the other #2's from the same box, they also had the rough exterior. Too bad I did not take a photo before I smoked it, to show you all here. Perhaps in the next month or two I'll buy another, just to compare.
There was an article in the Canadian Press a year or two ago about fakes making it into the Canadian market. It said something like 60% or Cuban cigars sold here are fakes. Trouble is I would not know if it were fake or not. My cigar tasted good, just did not look good or burn right. Also I noticed that the ash kept falling off like little flakes. I have never noticed this on other cigars.
Until I can get some Cubans that do not come through a dealer here in Canada, I guess I'll just take my chances for now.
Cheers
Clive

I never did like the Monte #2's; and I've had a lot of construction problems with them, even though I keep my humidor a bit dryer than most people. If I had two boxes of them right now, I'd trade them both for a single box of RASS...

And no, Squid® doesn't buy fakes...
