totally random but all I could think of when I read the subject lines was Samuel L. Jackson yelling:
"Enough is enough! I have had it with these m____f__ing xikars on this m____f__ing plane!" |

I carry it on every flight without a problem.
Pair it off with one of those blazers in your pocket and your golden!

One of the guys from O'hare snagged a prometheus lighter that I forgot I had in my bag....
He just put it right into his pocket in front of me...He could have at least waited until I walked away...

anyway, thanks for all the advice, i still have a few weeks to investigate. I've sent an email to xikar as well, see if they have any definite answers. If i can't get a definite yes, its staying home. Oh by the way, I'm flying out of JFK in NY, and they can be really sucky.

Don't worry about it.
I took a plane to AZ in the summer time. Just put all your stogie stuff under the plane and they wont care, you can tell them its in there just to let them know. I borough cutters, lights, cigars and nothing happened. |

Actually, I almost hate to inject facts into an opinion flavored discussion, but I just can't help it.
1. Zippo type lighters are allowed if they are either new/unfuled, or in an "otter box" type container. The prohibition isn't new, been around for a decade, the otter box being allowed is new. The reason is that the atmospheric pressure in the baggage compartment may reach the point that fumes from a butane lighter are vented causing a fire hazard. Fire would be a bad thing on an airplane. I hadn't seen the change on "torch" type lighters in approved containers in checked baggage as E.J.'s attached thread shows, I'll have to check on that one. 2. Lighters are no longer prohibited in carry on (or in your pocket) unless they are "torch" type lighters, which most cigar lighters are (Colibri/Xitar etc). Regular old butane (Bic type) lighters are allowed. You can also carry up to 4 books/boxes of matches, as long as they are not "strike anywhere" (and if they are it will say so on the box) matches. 3. Cigar cutters are allowed as long as the blade is enclosed in a housing, such as a gullitine type cutter. A couple of more points. TSA didn't prohibit lighters in carry on, Congress did, after the Richard Reid incident (you can google him if you're interested/care). TSA (Director Hawley) got it repealed because the traveling public spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to sneak their .99 lighter past the screeners, and the screeners spent a lot of time finding them. Taking your shoes off: See Richard Reid reference above. |

Lighters are a no no, but I've carried my Xikar cutter on both domestic and international flights more than once and never had a problem.
