xikar on a plane
I was wondering if anyone has any experience with trying to bring a xikar cutter on an airplane?
I am going to Arizona next month for some baseball spring training with family, and we always smoke after games. I was hoping to bring my new cutter and some cigars to share with everyone. Anyway, I know usually planes discourage blades on an airplane, but has anyone ever tried to bring one on a plane? I am probably not going to check any luggage and I would hate to get it taken away.

Can't imagine it would be a problem as the blade is not exposed. I'd leave it in the bag though just in case. I would guess it will only look like a pear-shaped object on the screen.

I don't think you could carry it on. I think you would need to check it. You cannot carry on nail clippers so I'm sure you could not carry on a cigar cutter.

Don't do it. Maybe with checked luggage, but carry on, they will take it.

I have taken my Xikar on the plane several times and never had a problem. I just put it in the little bowl along with my keys and spare change. A few times I had a screener ask what it was and after I told them they just handed it back to me.

If you check it you may be fine. May, not definately! Carrying on you're at the mercy of the individual TSA employee. So who knows! I'd just take something cheap just incase it gets confiscated. Or stop off at a smoke shop when you arrive and pick up a $2 cutter. When we flew to the Dominican Republic last month, Troy carried a cheap V cutter in his pocket and had no problem going or coming back. But it was only a $2 cutter, so if there was an issue, we could trash it and not lose anything valuable. I wouldn't risk taking anything valuable.

I leave a plastic freebie cutter and a couple boxes of matches in my backpack, which always goes on the plane with me all the time. I have never been questioned about those items at all, so I can't imagine it would be a big deal. I travel quite a bit - the only issue I had a problem with was a stupid multi-bit screw driver.
HA - Get this (now I have to tell the story). I had traveled with this same screw driver 8-10 times, never a problem. Then on one trip a TSA guy decides to measure the thing. You can't have an item like that which is over 6 inches. My screw driver, with the bit in was 6.5 and he confiscated the bit - THE BIT?!?! So now, I still travel with the screw driver, but I remove the bit and just throw it in the same pocket all the time. I have not had a problem since. WHAT IS GOING ON IN OUR COUNTRY, PEOPLE??? We get too hung up on the dumbest things and we don't spend enough time getting hung up on the issues that really matter............... ok - I feel a little better.

unless things have changed, tsa.gov lists cigar cutters as ok to bring on planes. I've done it multiple times without issue. One time a screener wanted to look inside my cigar box, but once they saw it was cigars, they waved me on through. Just check tsa.gov for their approved carry-on items list.

Don't even risk it. I would just being a cheapie cutter or something. Its not worth possibly losing a $50 cutter.
