Re: Smoking Ban
I feel for ya over there on the other side of the pond, my state was one of the first to impliment a total indoor smoking ban, so I have been feeling your pain for a couple of years now. Like you, with the harsh winters I can basically only smoke 6-8 months out of the year, but hopefully global warming will take care of that whole cold season problem

I feel your pain, here in Canada, we also have anal groups looking after my best interests ( trouble is they have never asked me what my interests are ). I'm wondering do they consider a golf course a public place, and would the ban be in effect there ? Enjoy while you still can, Rick

Re: Smoking Ban
The writing has been on the wall for a long time, yet smokers have allowed themselves to be continually shit on by the by the sanctimonious anti-smoking establishment and have been too timid or lazy to respond. Cigar smokers have adopted a holier-than-thou attitude toward cigarette smokers; smokers who comprise 20% of the voting public have failed to organize or have failed to support organizations acting in their behalf.....its the same old crap, people bitch when the roof caves in; yet fail to take timely action or to offer financial support to those taking action on their behalf..if over the past 10 years just 10% of the smokers would have contributed $50 per year in support of efforts to fight the anti-smoking zealots; and if 10% of those who financially contributed to the cause were proactive in fighting the anti-smoking looneys by contributing time and effort to support the cause, there would be no smoking bans....you makes your choices and you suffers the consequences of your choices......smokers have only themselves to blame for smoking bans...

okay i might get "bitch slapped" for this one but i think that there should be some regulation where people can smoke. should we be allowed to smoke at a public restaurant? i think not. should we be able to smoke in the park whilst watching our kids play? i think so. i think the problem is that some people are just irresponsible smokers. what is worse is that cigarette smokers give all casual smokers a bad rap because they are the most visible. i know iam not the only one who when someone smokes cigs think that they are less civil than i just because i smoke cigars. but what do i know.

The owners of establishments should be able to CHOOSE if they wish to allow smoking, and if so, how they wish to split up the smokers and non-smokers, if they want to buy good ventilation, etc. We're not asking that non-smokers breathe our smoke, but they can find plenty of non-smoking venues before they outright banned smoking, and we could find plenty of smoking-optional venues before an outright ban. The government has no business legislating this kind of behavior. It's easier to put a target on us so they can be seen to be "doing something!!!" when there are far more SERIOUS issues they should be addressing.

Re: Smoking Ban
But if establishments choose to be smoker friendly they would loose a huge amount of business the mindset of the establishment is that a person should be able to hold off smoking for the hour it takes to dine. To solve this problem maybe we should go back to the days of the 1920's and 30's where there were smoking parlors in restaurants.

Let establishments choose - smoking, non-smoking, or both - and let people choose where they want to go. If a smoker is offended by an establishment being non only, they can take their $$ elsewhere and vice versa for a non-smoker. Anybody see "V for Vendetta" ?? Great movie. "People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people." |
