Question End splitting, any way to stop it?

I am having some issues with a cigar a friend gave me. It's a Romeo n Juliet church hill Cuban. When he gave it to me it was in a zip lock baggie and pretty dried out. I let it rest in my humidor for about a year now and it was looking much better. Then recently the wrapper started to split and the end swelled up. Any way to stop it?

Hmmmm, From the end swelling up I would say to much humidity in your humi. What do you keep you humi at?

If i were to talk out of my ass, I would say it would be the drastic reconditioning of the tobacco, from very dry to possibly over humidified? splitting is a humidity issue, and It was super dry when he gave it too you then, thats what I think. but take what I say with a grain of salt..

My initial thought is it was too dried out when he gave it to you. Once it gets to dried out, from what I understand, you can't put the moisture back into the cigar.

Well, stopping this is not easy.. First of all you should check your humidity, if its at 70%, it should be allright. Allthough usually the humidity is different at several spots within a humidor, keeping loose cigars above the unit might get them as wet as a sponge... This has happened to me a while ago(not even my fault, the employee at the store put a tray with loose cigars on top of the unit in my locker)..

No, if the humidity is fixed(I'm assuming that this is the problem, cant think of any other reason for this to happen) let the cigar rest a while so it can get used to a more normal level. If the wrapper has come loose you could purchase some arabian gum to put it back together..

That would be the hard way out..I myself would smoke the thing and be done with the affair:elvis:, providing that it is at a decent humidity level....

Hope this helps

That sounds like an excellent idea. My Humi is not top notch and the house is not temp controlled this time of year. The temps have been from the 40's to the 80's over the last few weeks. Probably not going to have much luck trying to store anything untill I get a wine coolerdor.

So.... Its a beautiful day out, looks like a good day for a Cuban churhill

Think I should cut the expanded foot off?

Should not be nescesary(hope the spelling is right), you can allways light it, draw would be a touch lighter but still good in the beginning.. And if not you can still cut the damaged part off and smoke the rest. The churchill is a big enough cigar to stand this flavor wise..

A pic of how bad it is could help with the decision,
Allthough ive smoked through worse times

If the temp is ranging from 40 to 80 then the RH in your humi is bouncing all over the place with the temperature I bet. This sounds like a humidity thing to me. I hope it smokes and tastes well for you though
