U.S.Treasury letter of warning

I got it yesterday, seams like they say I bought a box of contraband cigars in 2005 from Hong Kong, dammmm I remember getting a humidor but no cigars , what will homeland security get me on next, ?? firecrackers from Mexico?

lol I have to say they are really on the ball serving letters for contraband from 2005. The speed in which they work really makes me proud of my tax dollars going to work. I'll sleep well tonight knowing that here in 2008 they are finally protecting us from things that happend in 2005.

So, let me get this straight - you had someone ship you contraband cigars from Hong Kong more than 2 years ago. The treasury knew that they came in, but did not stop them at the border. Rather they waited until now to let you know they knew? huh?

What did the letter say - that you will be visited in the middle of the night by jackbooted thugs at some point in the future?

Sounds to me like you had best destroy any remaining evidence. If you need help "burning" the evidence, I'm sure that some folks around here would be willing to help out.

Maybe they just look for CigarLive members who have been out of the country in the past 3 years and send them all letters. Cause y'know, how could we avoid buying that overtaxed box of cigars when we were in Ireland when we could have spent all our money on duty free whiskey?

It just means that the exporter in HK has turned over the lists of US customers to the appropriate local Customs authority, and the list has made it to back to the US gov't. It generally takes a couple years for all the paperwork to seize exporter records to go through.

Typically it is the credit card company turning over transactions and they noticed one from vendor. (best it was the big "V" that was used)
