So what's the deal with Puros Indios?
Years ago, the Puros Indios used to be one of my favorite smokes. I can remember back in the 1990s it getting a very high rating in Cigar Aficionado which prompted me to try it (and it was great!).
So, flash forward a few years and Puros Indios seems to have gone downhill - at least in the opinion of people. I remember one BOTL of the leaf commenting to me on one of my posts that on other boards, Puros Indios is met with some degree of contempt. I even picked up a box of Pytamid #3 at my local B&M for 50% off closeout. I must have missed something. This is still a great cigar. I do miss the Pryamide No. 1 7 1/2 inches by 60 ring gauge. One heck of a smoke. While I think you can still get it in the channel, it does not look like it will be a size that Reyes Family is going to make going forward based on their website. So, what am I missing? Why has Puros Indios gone from a great reputation to somewhat of a lesser one? -- Jim

I agree, it is somewhat baffling. They are good smokes, but for whatever reason they don't seem to sell well at B&Ms.

I bought some of the aged pyramids and I like them but, the opinion is far from unanimous. I think it's just one of those things, people either really like them or don't and there ain't much in the middle!

I have tried a couple of them. In my experience they are alot like me, very polarizing. You either love them or hate them not much in between.

I can recall that back 8-10 years ago the PI's seemed to be pretty darn good. They sure did garnish some high ratings as well. IIRC high 80's even an occasional 90 in CA mag!!
I liked them back then. But to MY taste the PI's seem to have changed somehow since then. FN in MT |

I will tell you what has kept me away from them is that when I really liked them in the late 90's they had Colorado wrappers and they kept slipping in these Col/Claro wrappers that I hated and then it was all Col/Claro.

I've always hated puros indios cigars. I don't like the flavor blend they put into them all.

I've only had two varieties of P.I. The first one was the #1, which was an ok cigar. Nothing terrible, though nothing to write home about. I did however, love the piramide. It was good all the way. I do need to get some more.
