Spots

I was reorganizing the humi the other day when I noticed somthing on a Bolivar Habano. I know green splotches on the wrapper are not uncommon but what are reddish splotches from? I'm not too concerned about it, and I am looking forward to smoking it but was just curious to what causes a reddish splotch. Never seen it before. Is this common/uncommon? Thanks in advance.

Re: Spots

i think there some handy threads from the past to check out, but i for one like when questions are repeated for the benefit of the gorillas joining everyday!

the green spoloches are completley okay and somewhat normal or common. for me its my Perdomo La Tradicion Champagne that had them, box after box, every other stick. what i can tell you is it does not effect the flavor or burn at all, its nothing bad or harmful and its not contagious. what i cant tell you is how they form, but im sure the previous threads got in detail on it

Re: Spots

i have some recent PSD4's with green spots, but have not seen these red spots you speak of. I'm sure someone here has seen such things. How red are they?

Re: Spots

There not super red, like fire engine red or anything, just reddish compared to the rest of the wrapper. I will have to try and post a pic of it so you guys can see what I am talking about. I just figured it might of been common for habanos. I have never seen it before but than again, I am the village idiot when it comes to my knowledge of habanos. I'm not really concerned about it, I will still smoke it like I stole it. I was just curious to how or why the red is formed.

Re: Spots

No need to be allarmed..
The wrapper leaf simply cured off color in a few places.
Its a natual product and it will cure differently...
Of course them using stained wrapper is evidence that the manufacturer isn't too quality minded.

"Spots" are often seen and they are caused by water durring teh curing or aging process.

Re: Spots

i normally find that happens on some my older cigars i find its normally where the binder is pushing onto the wrapper slightly more than in other palces and i get oily patches because of it, nothing to worry about tho, some of mine are even patterned because of the shape of the binder, obviously a small vein in the binder leaf and it has left an attractive oily pattern on the wrapper.
