Son,
I will probably dry store my tobacco in the barn until needed, then either wait for a few rainy days or mist with water to bring into "case". This way I should have less worries about mold. Dale, I didn't grow any under shade this year. I might try this next year. Now as far as bringing up the moisture. You could use a small humidifier or vaporizer. Build a small room out of clear plastic. or you could use a refridgerator box. hang your tobacco and place the humidifier on low to start keep checking, this might only take 8-12 hours just keep a close eye on them. If they become to wet just turn off the humi. and open up to allow air to circulate they will dry back out, then try again. I've seen a whole barn come into a high case in less than 6 hours, go from dry and brittle to wringing wet. The Black Mammoth can be used as a wrapper, binder, or filler.

That looks like fun, I'll have to look into getting some seeds to start a couple plants. I don't know how they'll do here in Nebraska, where both temperature and humidity go to extremes throughout the year.

James I'd be glad to send you some seeds when they're ready. They have to dry out first. Several of the brothers here grew some plants in large pots. Oh by the way I was born in Lincoln Nebraska, back in 1962. GO HUSKERS!!!!!!! My favorite football team.

Went to the barn to check the tobacco, I was surprised to see how much difference just 2 weeks make.

Wow, they dry/cure pretty fast. How long before you start to try rolling something??

Chuck,
It will take 4-6 more weeks to finish curing. Then I'll have to ferment the tobacco before I can start to roll. I'm going to guess it will be at least the end of Feb. before I'll have any thing we can smoke. It really depends on how much I have to work this winter. We are behind schedule on this new coke plant due to permit problems, so it looks like we will be going on a 7/12 schedule starting next Mon. So that won't leave much time for a while because I drive 2 hours each way, then work 12, most of my time is spoken for. I'm going to try and have some as soon as I can, I'm getting very excited.
