How quickly does your humidity recover in your humidor?

When you open your wooden humidor (say a 100 to 150 count size) for several minutes to re-orginize etc., how long does it typically take for the RH to restabilize? Also, does your recovery rate differ based on how full the humidor is due to the fact that there is less of a void?

It'll be dependent on a number of things. How empty it is (moisture in air is lost easily as the air circulates, moisture in cigars is held in more easily, so the emptier your humidor, the more of a drop in humidity when you open it) and how large your humidifier is (how many beads, for example, more beads the faster it recovers) are the two main factors off the top of my head.

Don't forget how dry the ambient air is. If it is winter in Wisconsin the air tends to be REALLY dry, so it sucks the moisture out of your humi pretty quick. However, if it is summer in Louisiana, you may have problems keeping the humidity DOWN as opposed to up since the ambient air is really wet.

Also depends on your humidification (active, passive, other). I have a Cigar Oasis XLII in my 400-count wood box. It's pretty full, and the Rh stabilizes very quickly after opening. Seems the fuller it became though, the more quickly it stabilized - good reason to always keep a stocked humidor!

I don't have an Oasis, pucks and a digital hygro.. I recently re-organized my humi's and had three of them open for about a half hour.. LA has recently had a heatwave (plus 90 degrees) and the humidity dropped off.. In the room I was in it was 79 degrees with a RH of 40..

My boxes recovered in another half hour to 72 degrees and RH of 66..

One thing I think helped them recover was exactly what HT said.. KEEP EM' FULL!!
