El Mejor Gran Reserva Emerald

I was going to put this up in the review section, but I'll throw it up here instead.

6.5"X54 Torpedo
I received this smoke from mikejh in a pay it forward on March 24 (thanks Mike!)

Prelight: This is a cedar wrapped smoke, with the binder showing through for an inch from the wrap (shaggy foot). There were no real blemishes to speak of, with a nicely formed pigtail torpedo cap. No major veins in the cigar but there were quite a few little thin veins. Smoke has a very easy prelight draw and smells like cocoa. Cigar is firm, gut gives nicely at the foot.

Light: Cigar was smooth from the start. Cedary notes in the back of a mild tobacco taste. When burn reached wrap, flavor stayed the same. Smooth tobacco flavor and cedar, but not much else at first. After first inch, began to catch little notes of cocoa and nuts, and a woodiness. Cigar gives plenty of smoke. About halfway through, the cigar starts to go from a mild to a full flavor smoke. Flavors get stronger with some coffee and cream notes. Finish was strong and long, with hints of pepper, oak and coffe, with the tobacco sweetening up.

This was an awesome smoke for the price point (well, it was free to me but these can be had for less than $3). I enjoyed the finish where the ligero was starting to liven up the smoke real nice. Cigar had a great burn, good smoke, but the ash was a little flaky in the start. Cigar was not harsh at all. I had to wait around a little while to get some good flavor going, but it wasn't exactly boring in the begining either. Smoke took almost 2 hours to finish.

You could probably get a better deal on C-bid, but CI has these for $68 for a box of 20 ($3.45 a smoke), but other sizes put it under the $3 spot.

Pretty good cigar. I got a box of Robustos a while back. I need to dig them out again now that they have a few months on them.

I believe those days are gone. That was the original format and now there is just a standard section. It seemed harder to search but I liked it better.

The emerald's are a good cigar, and for the price they just can't be beat. I snagged a 5er of robustos from the devil site for $11 awhile back.

You got me inspired and I burned a Robusto today. It was pretty good but didn't seem as good as the first one I had. I still have 10 or so left. Another try is in order in a few days.
