Another "lonely smoker" here. I pretty much smoke outside, either strolling around the front yard, sitting in the back patio, or the rare walk with the dog. Even though my wife will join me for the occasional smoke, inside is a forbidden area. Because of my young son, the car is a place we keep smoke-free also.

Re: Park the car, smoke a stogie.

I know I have told this before, but I am going to tell it again.

On 9/11 The World Trade Center collapsed in a nightmarish cloud of dust and debris in 2001. We remember, because we don't want to forget.

On 9/11 In 2002, my Dad and My brother, following a promise I had made to a great friend, went to a special Rock Outcropping over Lake Mineral Wells at the Mineral Wells State Park.

There, with a fantastic View of the lake and the surrounding Woods, they smoked cigars in rememberance of my buddy's cousin who parished in that attack one year before. (Unfortunately, it was during a time when I was trying to quit smoking, so I was not able to join them)

They have done this same ritual every year since. This year, I will join them. And this smoke ritual will be followed by a day or two of great fishing and a load of good cigars, but best of all, memories.

Re: Park the car, smoke a stogie.

I am a lonely smoker as well. I talk and deal with people all day. When I smoke it is a time for me to unwind and just be with my thoughts, or a good book. My favorite place in the winter is at night in my hottub under the starts. My favorite in the summer is anywhere with a sunset. It is all about being peaceful for me!

Re: Park the car, smoke a stogie.

Thanks guys, for the great input. As the weather in L.A. warms up towards Summer I will be doing a lot of outside smoking on the patio outside the kitchen . This area is surrounded by trees and vegetation, and has a semi-enclosed feel. We have friends over for BBQ there, and it's also a great stogie retreat.
My absolute fave is when there is no wind at all, as I just love to watch the smoke drift slowly in the balmy air. Can't wait.. :s

i envy you having a cigar room, its my all time dream to have my own smoking room that i can decorate exactly how i want, fill it with humidors and my collection of Scoth single malts, and just have some peace, no tv, no computer, definately no phone, just some music and a comfortable chair, maybe with a few extra chairs for my closest friends to join me every now and again.
problem is if i had one id probably never leave ever again

Re: Park the car, smoke a stogie.

I don't smoke in the car, but I pretty much herf solo as well. Usually I'm either at the backyard patio or in the garage. There's a B&M just a couple of blocks from work so I'm usually there on my lunch break. Have been to several places around here and have attended numerous herfs throughout the years. Once in a while you may want to check out a few that are posted here. I've been busy lately so I've been out of the loop as far as herf schedules go.

Thumbs up Re: Park the car, smoke a stogie.

During good weather here in the Boston area, I love to take a cigar and maybe my pipe and go fishing, either from the shore of the Saugus River and get a striper, go surf fishing and get whatever or grab a fly rod and get some trout from a stream. The bank fishing and surf fishing are somewhat sociable, and sometimes I resent my loss of personal space. By virtue of wading in a stream and whipping a heavy line with a sharp hook on the end, fly fishing in a stream is somewhat more solitary. Keep in mind that I said loss of personal space-if you are out in public doing an activity that other folks enjoy and speak to you, you have lost privacy. All year round, if I want to preserve my personal space and my sense(or illusion) of privacy, I jump into my truck and drive to a spot on the shore and smoke either a cigar or my pipe, sip on a beer and read a book. I much more resent the crowding that is implied with loss (or invasion) of personal space than the loss of privacy. I can be very civil from a distance of at least 4 feet for an indeterminate period, but very uncivil when I am elbow to elbow with people who I would never choose to meet voluntarily. However, I would have have no personal space when it comes to the good folks on this board, I feel at home. Paul

Re: Park the car, smoke a stogie.

There is this hill right behind my pad, where you can drive up and there is a little overlook on the side of the road with a view of the numerous mountains in the area. I just grab a chair, hop over the divider, and take a seat on the hill. Play some Bach on the Ipod or something. The passing tourists may think the hill is on fire, but what does that matter?

Re: Park the car, smoke a stogie.

Well said taltos. Some of the best cigar times have been just me and by little Ford Focus. Not a lot of room but just enough. I usually read a book if its durring the day. Or at night I'll scrool the A.M and F.M dials to see what kind of variety I can find. No one to bother me, and like was said befor the tempture is always right and theres just enough wind only when you need it.

Talking Re: Park the car, smoke a stogie.

Larry,

You are not alone in your endevor to find a quite place to have a cigar. I live in Cleveland and I have a favorite park by lake Erie that I go to when I want peace and quite while I smoke a nice cigar. Sure I could step out on the deck during warmer weather but usually my wife interupts my solitude with a question about something. When the weather turns cold I go to the lake crack a window turn up the heat and watch the snow fall on a frozen lake, so relaxing.

Ron

Often I smoke on Starbucks patio, but people have a way of starting conversations over it. That can be fun, but sometimes I just want to have peace and quiet and watch the smoke curl slowly in the air.
There are a few cigar lounges which are nice, but again you will be gotten into a conversation.

Lately I have been parking the car in a nice spot, putting the seat back all the way, and smoking in relative peace and quiet. I control air flow by how many windows I open and by how much.
I did this today with a really nice Perdomo, (not Anniversary, just the regular).
It was delicious, I was comfortable, nobody said "You've got to be kidding" or "Have you ever tried Tiparillo's?"...

Does anybody else do this or am I just hopelessly anti-social? Larry.

A couple of you apes mentioned fishing with your cigar. I always loved to fish but, I guess I'm just a poor fisherman ... seldom caught much of anything.

I think cigars would go well with fishing ... quiet, thoughtful time to just unwind. With a good smoke ... who cares if I don't catch anything. Just might have to dig out my pole.

It is nice. The only problem is when you catch one, you need to have a towel handy to wipe the fish slime off your hands before touching your stogie again.

My dad and I have a towel about the size of a dish towel. We folded the corner down and put a grommet and a carabiner on it. We can hang it from our belt loop so we always have a towel handy.

Re: Park the car, smoke a stogie.

On Monday, I just had finished working on my truck, pulled up a camp chair and sat in my garage with the door up, smoked a very nice robusto and watched a storm roll down the valley, The rain was bouncing off the driveway and I just sat in the garage ,taking it all in. Life is good sometimes.

This fishing idea is looking better all the time! Hadn't really thought about stinking up my cigar with fish slime. But, since I don't usually catch anything anyway, I won't have to worry about that.
