Re: How did you tell your loved ones know about your cigar hobby?

My wife knew I smoked them on occasion (and by occasion I mean once a month or so) and a buddy bought me a humi and a bunch of smokes for an engagement present and that really got me started, and now Im up to 2 per day, or so.. She thinks it smells, but knows I enjoy it. I also don't spend nearly as much on smokes as she does on clothes, so its all good.

Re: How did you tell your loved ones know about your cigar hobby?

I didn't tell anyone....Purchased a 100ct, then another 100ct, then a 500ct, now working on a coolerador. I think they got the hint.

My wife knows its just a hobby. Her grandfather used to smoke cigars, so she has no problem with the smell and understands. She's just happy I'm home more often. I sold the motorcycle to upgrade sometime in the future and now the $$$ is gone.... This recent slide has cost me my future ducati monster....

Damn!! O well !!

Re: How did you tell your loved ones know about your cigar hobby?

I guess I'm one of the fortunate ones. With the exception of the occassional 'thats stinky' remark my family accepts it. They lovingly tease me about it. They see me put on my smoking clothes and jacket (old sweats and a housecoat) and they Dad is heading out to what has been termed the 'puff puff palace'.

As long I don't start lighting up multiple cigars a day it's no biggie here. And eve nthen... it would only be out of concern for my health. I'd rather have them biatch at me out of love than not give a crap either way....

Re: How did you tell your loved ones know about your cigar hobby?

I can remember when I was younger and could'nt stand the smell of my Grandfather's Cigar ( White Owls,Phillies 66). My Mother always reminds me of those days, but has never approved or disapproved of my obsession.

Re: How did you tell your loved ones know about your cigar hobby?

Btw, my folks were Southern Baptist too ... they passed away years ago ... I know I would be hearing from them because cigar smoking is probaby right up there with dancing and gambling.

The rest of the family doesn't give me too much grief about it. I'm a long-time cigarette smoker and I know everyone is happy that cigars have helped me cut way back on that nasty habit.

Anyway, I guess everyone learned about my "little hobby" last Christmas when I gave out my Christmas list ... cigars, cigars and more cigars.

Re: How did you tell your loved ones know about your cigar hobby?

I just mentioned it in passing at some point. My loved ones know and dont object so long as it is just an occasional thing. Actually, they seem fascinated by it. I have never smoked in front of my mother however, dont know how she would respond actually seeing me in the act. My father would likely disapprove if he were still alive, largely because he smoked cigarettes since he was 15 and had a hard time quitting. Everyone else either joins in or approves.

Re: How did you tell your loved ones know about your cigar hobby?

I got dragged into it... had enough of the "try this" and then "hey honey, try this one". Pretty soon I was forming my own opinions.

BTW, we were in DC on Tuesday and on Saturday, we were smoking outside Magno's restaraunt. No complaints there that we heard anyway.

Re: How did you tell your loved ones know about your cigar hobby?

My wife doesn't mind one iota; she'll actually smoke with me occasionally. When I get a new box, she'll say "cool, let's see". But I've been smart not to take advantage of that attitude too much.

My 7 year old son is the problem. He doesn't like the smell, and is taught in school that smoking is bad and evil. I really can't fault his thinking, so I try not to smoke in front of him.

The only family member that gives me constant crap is (big surprise) my mother-in-law; when she rags on me for my cigars and booze, my usual rejoinder is a line from Frank Sinatra- "You die your way, I'll die mine".

Re: How did you tell your loved ones know about your cigar hobby?

I just started smoking them. Only problem I ever ran into was a girl I dated briefly who didn't like the smell. The key word is briefly.

My mom likes the occasional puff on whatever I'm smoking and my family and GF buy me cigars for presents. Most of the people I know actually enjoy the smell of a cigar.

Re: How did you tell your loved ones know about your cigar hobby?

My mom has a great nose and started smelling it on my coat. My dad doesn't really care, being a cigarrette smoker himself. My mom hassles me all the time (WHERE DO YOU GET THEM? HOW MUCH DO THEY COST? DON'T THEY HURT YOUR THROAT? ITS VERY BAD FOR YOU BLAH BLAH BLAH) but she knows I'm a big boy now and I can do what i want My sister hassles me all the time too, but I pretty much just ignore everything she has to say anyway (our relationship isn't exactly good ). I don't smoke around my family because i know they would rather not see it (out of sight, out of mind) except sometimes my dad will stumble upon me and my buddies having a stogie and he'll join the conversation and have a cigarette himself.
