Re: How did you tell your loved ones know about your cigar hobby?

For me it was as simple as receiving a gifted humidor from TypO- with a few sticks.

My wife has not let it be known openly that she doesn’t care for my new hobby. However, she will not be on the patio with me while I’m smoking. I think this is her way of indirectly telling me she doesn't care for it.

On a lighter note, my wife did come and sit with me tonight for the first time! Needless to say, I made sure no smoke was exhausted her way. I hope this is the first step towards her being included of a part of the day which I have come to enjoy!

Re: How did you tell your loved ones know about your cigar hobby?

My wife actually thinks its cool, though she doesn't like the smell while I smoke. She does allow me to smoke in the house and doesn't mind the smell the next day. I guess she doesn't like to breathe the actuall smoke for health sake, but don't smoke constantly either.

The some in the family think I'm nuts but in a funny way. I already had my mom try one with me. THAT was funny... LOL

I don't smoke or talk about cigar infront of children, mainly because I don't want them to mis interpret my hobby and end up sucking down two packs of cigarettes a day when they grow up.

My Dad preaches at a non-denominational "pentecostal" church. He smoked the one cigar in his youth and . We have a bad history of cancer from smoking in my family. My folks know I smoke cigars and pipes. While they are glad Im off the cigs, they shake their heads if I ever mention it............I dont ever mention it!

Did you guys with problems with family thinking it is unhealthy ever try to show them the articles comparing cigars and cigarettes? That may clear up some misunderstandings. If done in moderation, it is not unhealthy.

Re: How did you tell your loved ones know about your cigar hobby?

I still haven't told my father, my mom knows and does not like it but won't tell my dad because she thinks it will crush him. Both my grandparents on my dad's side died in their earlie sixties due to smoke related problems, I truley don't think he would be crushed, he would just argue with me about it but he chewed for most of my life so I don't think it would be a huge problem, I just avoid smelling like it at work.

My wife is glad I only smoke one or two a month and actualy likes the smell of my hemingways but other than that she wishes I would find a new hobbie.

Wish I could just come out and tell my dad but me, my brother and sister all enjoy cigars so that may be to much for him to take in a day.

I don't smoke in front of my boys for the same reason.

My dad smokes the occasional cigar and it was he and my uncle that got me started. I recently really got into the hobby and their was some concern but that has faded.

My wife does not mind and actually she probably likes it because we sit on the porch more and talk.

But I still think she is a little unaware of how much they cost and how much I spend.

Re: How did you tell your loved ones know about your cigar hobby?

My grandfather smoked cigs like a chimney. He started smoking when he was young. He grew up in southern KY. Where our family still gorws tobacco to this day. My Grandma smoked cigs until I was probably 6 or so when I asked her to quit and she did cold turkey. My Dad used to smoke cigs but never around me when I was growing up I didn't even know he smoked unitl I was in my teens. My Uncle and mom went together and opened up a Cigar shop which means that I have been around cigars for almost half of my life now. My Mom, Dad, Uncle, I all smoke cigars. I've now been smoking them for almost 5 years so they are all right with it. My GF doesn't really care for it all that much but she tolerates it because she knows that I'm not going to quit.

When they first learned that I had started smoking they weren't all that happy with me but with the leniage that I come from you can't really say anything about it and my mom and dad know that. I want to open up a B&M after I finish school with the help of my uncle to get me started.

I told my parents I smoked the occasional cigar, but I couldn't hide it when the humidor came in the mail.

Re: How did you tell your loved ones know about your cigar hobby?

My grandfather smoked cigar, my father smoked cigars. I still have both of their humidors. Cigars have been part of my family since I was born. I smoked with my dad until the day he died.

My wife will smoke cigars with me on occasion and keep her favorites stocked up like I do mine. I play golf with my mom at least once a week and smoke my cigars on the golf course. She has no problem when my cigar smoke blasts her in the face when we are riding together in the golf cart.

Hey, it beats crack or heroin (only marginally wrt $).

Actually, I used to smoke cigarettes, so this is a good compromise (again, except everyone thought this would be cheaper).

My parents don't know yet. heh. i dont think.

My gf hated the idea until recently she has gotten over it as long as i have 1-2 a week only. Usually i dont even have that. But i just told her to get over it and she did.

Re: How did you tell your loved ones know about your cigar hobby?

My mom found out when I came home with a baggie of cigars from the B&M. I think it sealed the deal though when that Gispert sampler came in the mail. Since then she's "caught" me smoking in the backyard a few times.
My older brother smokes cigars so I just gifted him a cigar one day.

And my dad found out when he came home and found me puffing away on his porch with a glass of his scotch. He declined to smoke with me because he is a reformed cigarette smoker, but I could tell he wanted one bad. When I get a couple more cubans I don't think he will be able to refuse.
