Over the weekend I was spending some extra time appreciating the various flavors of some of my smokes. I realized that there are a couple of different "tastes" that I can identify but not label. In other words, I know when I taste them but, can't really identify/label them. I am unable to really say what they "taste" like. It seems that some of these go along with a particular brand and seem to be part of their base flavor profile. For instance, I can taste the same flavor in the finish of almost all Rocky Patel cigars. Some have more of it (the Connecticut comes to mind) and some have less but, it is there almost every time. I began to realize that there was some flavor in the Perdomos I have been smoking a lot of recently that seemed common to many of them but I just couldn't put my finger on it. I noticed the flavor in the Reserve Sun Grown I was smoking. Then I lit up a Habano corojo and BAM it hit me. That's that leather taste every reviewer seems to mention but I could never find before. It wasn't that I wasn't tasting it, I just didn't identify it as leather. However, once I had labeled it in my mind it became obvious. Anybody else had a similar experience?
This is one of the things I love about smoking cigars. There is always something to discover even in the most familiar of smokes!!! ![]()

It's good aint it. I remember the first time I could pick out flavours - it suddenly happened out of nowhere.
And for a good Leathery cigar, try a Cohiba Lancero! |

I just smoked a LFD oriental.. Man, I broke out my leather belt.. Chomped on it a bit and compared the taste.. Yup, the same..
In fact, it was better than the belt...
