An Early Father's Day Present...

After returning from my son's High School graduation event, and sparking up my current favorite stick, I became aware of the fact that junior and his friend had made a run to the local B&M (2Guys, Nashua, NH).

When asked by the man behind the counter what was the purpose of the cigars, they replied "High School Graduation", to which they were sold a pair of $15 dollar sticks.

Upon returning home, they showed me their booty. Two Davidoff Classic #2.

Gentlemen, I began, you have not bought a cigar, you have bought a cigar experience.

At that point and for the next forty-five minutes, we sat together as I demonstrated the full extent of my limited cigar knowledge.

They were instructed on the feel, smell, parts of the cigar, places the leaves are grown, cutting and tasting. Everything you do in your pre-light routine.

This was followed by the proper lighting, clearing, draw-and-hold, retrohale and searching for the taste and flavor components hidden in the cigar.

At the end, both agreed that this was the first lesson in a long time that they were interested in hearing.

So for my fellow BOTL, who leave those little tidbits of knowledge about the art of smoking a cigar around here, don't for one minute think that they go un-noticed, un-read, or unlearned.

Somebody, somewhere, especially me, are learning, trying to keep up, and pass them along.

And for the dads among us, happy early Father's Day.

-Joe

That's nice. I have to wait SEVERAL years before I can do that with my son, but I cannot wait. Happy early Father's Day to you, too.

Cool

As retailer, I get to do this quite a bit. Some of my son's friends came in the other day celebrating one of them coming home from Iraq. We ended-up sitting in the lounge and smoking Pardon 80ths. My son doesn't smoke, and that's OK with me. But, he still sits and listens and enjoys the social experience.

I love my job -- much to my wife's dismay. Zino Davdoff said something like this -- "If your wife doesn't like the smell of your cigar, get a new wife."

Great story to read, and it gave me some thought for next weekend. My son turns 18 on the 14th of June, and for he's birthday he wants to sit with the old man and smoke from a box of cigars that I have had put away just for this special day.

It's going to be the best fathersday ever!!
