Smoking Safer

I just wanted to type out a few suggestion for those concerned about the health issues associated with cigar smoking. These suggestions should help your cigar smoking experience to be a safer experience.

1) Limit your cigars. This seems obvious but I do go by the smoke better less often phrase. I average about 3 cigars a week and I do so to limit my exposure to possible carcinogens.

2) After smoking...dental hygiene: Use a tongue scraper and brush your teeth whenever it's possible after smoking a cigar. Leaving residue in your mouth increases your exposure.

3) Make use of your ashtray: When your not actively puffin away use the ashtray. Keeping the cigar hanging from your mouth like Clint Eastwood might look cool but it also increases your exposure.

4) Don't Inhale: Sounds obvious but alot of smokers inhale their cigars. Cigar nicotine is absorbed well through the oral mucosa. There is no need to inhale to "catch a buzz".

5) Blowing out throw the nose: Might be fun...might even increase your enjoyment but limit this activity. Cancers further back in the mouth tend to be more dangerous. Not to mention it inflames sinus tissues and create serious sinus problems.

Just a few suggestion for those smokers concerned about health issues.

It actually makes all of the otherwise BS cigar aficionado ratings make some sense (flavor recognitionly speaking!)

Concerned about health? Anyone read "In Search of Pipe Dreams"? It mentions a study done by 2 doctors from American Cancer Society who did a study on tobacco use. When done in moderation (3 pipe bowls or 1 cigar per day) the average smoker (not including cigarette smokers) lived 2 years longer than those who did not smoke at all!!! Why? The relaxation factor from smoking extended life longer than those uptight ninnys!!!

Moderation folks, moderation in every aspect of life...Truth of the matter is, every one of us has a date of death that we can't escape...I mean, how else can you explain a guy falling down a mine shaft so far that it took quite a while to get him out, and many people have fallen less feet and died, and this guy did not...Same with the guy whose parachute didn't open and lived, and the guy who fell 40 stories a few weeks ago and lived. Your date is predetermined, and nothing you do can change that...

Dang, didn't mean to go so long everyone

As my dad always said (the one who got me into cigars), "I only smoke the expensive ones so it doesn't become a habit". I still have yet to decide on that one though, it just seems that my wallet just takes a bigger hit!

I like that thought if it controls your smoking. I do alot of things that are considered unhealthy. But, I do so in moderation including cigar smoking. I do prefer to smoke better quality less often.
