Wrapper Characteristics.

I think we should discuss wrappers. And open a thread discussing all of the different wrappers available and their qualities.

I would like to A: All of the wrapper currently offered, and B: know if you like or dislike them, and why. As a fairly new smoker, I have learned that choosing a wrapper is half the flavor battle in a new stick. I find that people seem to be more loyal to a wrapper than to a brand. So I would like anyone willing to participate to discuss your favorite wrappers, why you like them, and which lines currently made, serve your fancy.

I will start with the corojo wrapper. I love that i get a chocolately feel from it like a maduro, yet I get some spice from it that livens things up.

Tell us about your favorite wrappers. theres so many out there, sun grown, shade grown, its hard at times to keep up.

Maduro is my favorite...the wrapper is just great to look at all oily and the taste is better than any natural or cameroon that I've had.

I have to say, Maduros are probably my favorite but Corojo is a close second. The sweet, rich flavor of a maduro wrapper is top notch. Though, as you said, there are times I want more of the spicy/leathery notes that I find in the Corojos.

I have only had a few cameroons and those that I've had did not excite me too much.

Sun grown and corojo. I like spice in a cigar. Of course a good maduro is never a bad choice either.

I find maduros too mild. Enjoy Ecuadorian sungrown, corojo, and habano.

I enjoy most wrappers even the Mild Connie gets my attention on the NUB and Perdomo Habano's, each with its own characteristic I love the variety. My faves are the Corojo, Habano/Criollo and Oscuro/Maduros

I'm a big fan of Connecticut Broadleaf (especially broadleaf maduro) and Habano wrappers. Not a big fan of Cameroon.

I used to love the Connecticut shade grown wrappers. Now I love the cameroon wrappers on the Oliva Gs.

My favorites are the Oscuro, sun grown, and corojo

All of these seem to lend themselves to making more complex cigars. I dont know just what I think i have noticed.

Do not care much for cameroon or conneticut... just do not fit my flavor profile.

Hoduran and Nicaraguan Corojo (Camacho, RP, Pepin)

When you guys say maduros, in my opinion, you really need to be specific for this conversation. Is it a corojo maduro or a Connecticut broadleaf maduro or some other kind of leaf? Remember that maduro wrappers are produced by a specific fermentation process so they are a kind of wrapper but they can be many kinds of leaf. I prefer the Connecticut broadleaf maduro for the most part.

Maddy's come from the top 2/3 of the plant. And the dark characteristic comes from the extended fermentation. Great link to Maddys:

I love all Maduros, but my favorite are the Oscuro Maduros like the RP Edge.
