I'm on a Quest
The last couple of months I've been on a quest and I'm having lots of fun. Thought I'd share the idea with my brothers at CL.
I usually pretty much gravitate to Robusto and Torpedo size cigars. Since most cigars come in these sizes, when I go to my local B&M I'll grab one or the other of my usual brands.
Earlier this year I was sitting on the porch enjoying a wonderful H. Upmann cigar. It was a traditional Corona Gorda (5 5/8 x 46) and it was my "smoke of the year" at that point. As I was enjoying it I found that I really liked the size. It felt good in my hand and in my mouth.
I decided to do some research and find out what other cigar lines were offered in a 5 5/8 x 46 size. Not many cigar lines offer the traditional Corona Gorda but I found a few of my favorites that did. I promptly picked up a few Tatuaje sticks - Black, Havana VI, Cabaiguan. I was on to something!
Since then I've been on a quest to "collect" as many Corona Gorda size cigars as I can find. It's made my trips to the local B&M more interesting and I've found myself watching the devil site more closely. It's really a lot of fun. When I find something new it's almost like finding treasure. I usually pick up three sticks of each, one to smoke now and two to save for another day. It's added an interesting dimension to my "hobby".
Thought I'd share the idea with the rest of you. Pick a cigar size that maybe isn't mainstream (lancero, perfecto, etc.) and build yourself a little collection. It's been great fun for me and I find myself trying brands that I might not have noticed before. The only drawback is you may find yourself buying cigars faster than you're smoking them. My new (third) humidor should arrive next week :-).
Keep On Smoking.
