question about piramides

Hey guys, it's the Noob.

Tonight I am going light up a piramide, either a Cohiba LE 2006 or a Monte #2. I have never smoked a piramide so how much do I cut off? I don't want to ruin it. Looking at the cone shaped cap I am wondering how many cuts I should give it.

Just one clean cut will do. Maybe about a 1/4" down....

1/4" is probably a good estimation. Just remember if you don't cut engough you can always make another, but if you cut too much...

I agree, I always err on the side of caution, and slowly cut more until I get that perfect draw.

How many of you guys gut at an angle? I really dont know if it makes a difference but I was taught by my father years ago to cut pyramids at an angle and I have been doing it since. Something about more surface area maybe. I dont really remember what he said. But I have seen others do the same.

The surface area thing makes sense. When I smoke a Hemingway, that's how I smoke it. The one bad thing about cutting too little off is that I sometimes get tar buildup at the head. Another small cut takes care of it though.

I personally dont as it feels awkward in my mouth. But it does direct the smoke really well. Its like using a punch on one side of a Chisel. It directs the smoke, but feels really awkward to me. Just my 0.02
