Most of the time, I walk over to the humidor and just grab whatever happens to catch my eye.

Cool

Sometimes I walk into the humidor with a particular stick in mind, but most of the time I just open the door and pick whatever strikes my fancy at the time. If I'm packing for off-site smoking I'll usually take a few extra sticks -- to give away or to keep my options open.

I sometimes earmark a cigar for a particular event -- like atook a Partagas Lusitania to smoke poolside in Vegas when I went in July. I have a Padron 80th set aside for when the Redskins beat the Cowboys this season, a God of Fire aging for a Redskin Super Bowl win sometime in the future, etc...

I will also take cigars that I've had a good experience with in certain situations. For instance, when I go to the ocean, I take sungrowns -- RPs and Ashton VSGs. They are FANTASTIC in the salt air (seriously, you guys in Wyoming will maybe never know what the difference really is.)

I have always loved sitting on the beach at sunset with a nice cigar. There is something to be said for the salt air. I don't know what it is but it makes a good cigar great.

Usually random, unless what I smoked previously didn't quite hit the spot for me. Then I will plan my next attack strategically.

Mostly random - whatever catches my eye when I open the humidor. But there are days when I just know what that next cigar HAS to be.

I think about it, have it all planned out and then when the time comes I pick something totally different. Last weekend I drove to a golf tournament and packed in 10 minutes and it took me 30 minutes to pick out what cigars to bring...I ended up bringing my humi with me.

Depends:

If I'm at the B&M restocking, I'll have a list of "must-get", then freewheel from there.

If I'm at home, I'l look at how much time I have then pick a "new" one to try.

If all the "new" ones are go, then an old favorite will do.

The only planning ahead is "thinking about enjoying a cigar"

Not exactly random, but not "planned" either. The humi usually holds three brands: 2 everyday cigars and something a little more upscale (but not much). I try to alternate the everydays and hold off on the "upscale" for only one a week.
