The World Traveler Contest

Gorillas,
Lots of you have been extremely generous and frankly, pretty damn cool to me since I've been here! So, in a small effort to pay y'all back, I'm going to hold my first contest. Now, the answers to all of these questions are places in the world that I've really enjoyed for various reasons. To win the contest, you will have to come up with the correct towns and match the significant events that I am providing to you.
Here are the questions
1) What is recognized as the coldest town in the continental US?
2) What town in the Netherlands has their second most important cattle market?
3) What was the name of the small military installation that was located in Oberursel Germany?
4) Where in Korea were political scholars banished to during the Chosun Dynasty?
5) At what ski resort did I ski my first black diamond run named the Widowmaker?
6) What town on the Olympic Penninsula (Washington) averages the same amount of rain/year as LA and San Fran?
7) What Italian styled hotel did I stay at in September of 04?
Now, here are the significant events in my life to match up to the towns.
A) Best ski area (IMHO) in the United States. <-- a real brain buster!
B) Where I was born
C) My favorite fishing destination in the US
D) The town near the summer camp that I went to for 10 years
E) My favorite place that I have lived outside the US
F) The location of my bachelor party
G) One of the prettiest islands in the world (IMHO)
Ok, the winner will get one each, Gurkha centurian XX, Gurkha Legend Perfecto, HU Mag 46, Hemmingway Best Seller, one special stick (surprise), and one more surprise gift (also a surprise). Good luck!
-Pete

Re: The World Traveler Contest

>>1) What is recognized as the coldest town in the continental US?
International Falls, Minnesota, with a mean temperature of 36.4 degrees F.

>>2) What town in the Netherlands has their second most important cattle market?
Utrecht (second guess: Venhorst)

>>3) What was the name of the small military installation that was located in Oberursel Germany?
Camp King (US military base); formerly known as Dulag (German POW Camp)

>>4) Where in Korea were political scholars banished to during the Chosun Dynasty?
Jeju, Korea (formerly known as Tamna before 1146 AD)

>>5) At what ski resort did I ski my first black diamond run named the Widowmaker?
Sugarload Ski Resort in Maine

>>6) What town on the Olympic Penninsula (Washington) averages the same amount of rain/year as LA and San Fran?
Port Townsend, Washington. [San Fran and LA average about 20 inches a year. So do the cities of Sequim, Port Townsend and Coupeville, Washington]

>>7) What Italian styled hotel did I stay at in September of 04?
Hotel Torino in Venice. [This is a trick question. By definition, it is "italian styled"]

Now, here are the significant events in my life to match up to the towns.

A) Best ski area (IMHO) in the United States. <-- a real brain buster!
Sugarland Ski Resort in Maine

B) Where I was born
Germany, near Oberursel (perhaps the military hospital in Franfurt, Germany... like me!)

C) My favorite fishing destination in the US
Port Townsend, Washington

D) The town near the summer camp that I went to for 10 years
International Falls, MN

E) My favorite place that I have lived outside the US
Netherlands

F) The location of my bachelor party
Venice (same city as your wedding, I presume)

G) One of the prettiest islands in the world (IMHO)
Jeju, Korea

all right, good work on the first effort! 1,3,4,6 are correct, the italian styled hotel is in the United States (that's your hint!). C,D,G are correct. Sequim Wash is actually the answer I was looking for, but Port T is close enough.

I was just kidding about like Snowshoe, WV better than PC. (Although I consider it the best ski run within driving distance of me.)

I knew there was a Widowmaker out there somewhere but kept looking over at Snowbird and couldn't find it. I love the atmosphere of Park City and usually stay there, but prefer to ski Snowbird, Alta, and Deer Valley.

Thanks for running this contest. I had a lot of fun.

Re: The World Traveler Contest

Well my prize arrived today and I'm glad I spent that time looking up Zwolle on the internet. It was well worth the effort.

8 terrific looking cigars and a really cool hat. I've really been warming up to the Gurkha brand, and the Mag 46 is one of my favorite ISOMs

That looks terrific, I will wear it with pride.

Thanks Pistol...Awesome contest.

Dan

Re: The World Traveler Contest

I never saw this contest when it was going, but I lived in Port Townsend and graduated from Sequim High School. Weird. That's a town that you don't see referenced too often.
