UF Victory Smokes

Well folks...this thread is a continuation (sequel, if you will) to a thread I wrote on a bomb that my good friend Charles dropped on me (see it here - http://www.cigarlive.com/forum/showt...hlight=Charles ). His gift was a list of smokes to celebrate the Gator victories this season. Well, I'm proud to say that the first victory is in the bag and the first Nub is in the ashtray.

Tonight (I know, I'm five days late) I celebrated the UF win over the University of Hawaii. The assigned cigar (Pic 1 in the above link) was a Gurkha Titan.

The construction of the stick was relatively good, but did reveal a couple of soft spots (rather like the Hawaii defense). I decided to try a new game plan on this smoke (much like the Gators) and used a V cutter to cross cut the cap. It created a nice firm opening and left the cap in excellent shape on the shoulders of the cigar (Pic 2).

This was my first Titan and I (much like Hawaii) didn't know what to expect. The cigar on preligt had a peaty, woody aroma. The cross cut provided a nice open (much like the Hawaii defensive secondary) draw. Upon toasting, the wood flavors were prominent. The body of the smoke for the first quarter was firm but not exceedingly strong (unlike many other Gurkhas).

About halfway through the smoke (Pic 3) the flavors remained constant and I didn't notice much change. Not an overly spicy smoke as expected.

As I neared the end of the smoke (the last third) the smoke got a little uglier (much like the 3rd quarter scoreboard last Saturday - if you a Hawaii fan that is) and the finish got a touch harsher and the heat increased in the fingers and slightly on the tongue. Some of this I can blame on the wider cut and more open draw, but it would have been far worse had I executed a guillotine cut.

All in all, it was a good smoke down to the very nub (Pic 4). I feel safe in saying that I anticipate a great season for UF and expected to see them rise as "Titans" on the grid iron. For those who didn't see the game and can't see the picture - University of Florida defeated Hawaii 56-10! Now...stay tuned for this weekend when UF downgrades the Miami Hurricanes to a Tropical Storm.

i will be pulling for Florida tonight against U, but dont count on the support throughout the season from this end.
Tigers get the week off unfortunately due to BR getting hit hard by Gustav. lots of damage to Tiger Stadium that needs to be fixed up. the game next week may even have to be moved.

good luck tonight dudes.

thanks Kory
i'm just hoping that Ike decides to make a southerly swing and head the opposite direction or drop down to a tropical storm/depression before it get to LA. if it stays on track, there is no way LSU will get to play next weekend either, and not to mention the last thing LA needs is another damn hurricane.
