If you do end up shaving the tip down, let us know if you think it has made a difference

I think what happened is that the "spear" on the nubber is too large. I use one of those things that hold a corn cob, or I had a special fork with the center tine broken out

Forrest,
Just saw this...well, the genesis of the Stogie Nubber came about because it worked very well with a Padron 1926 anniversario, the first cigar I ever nubbed with it...now, that is a little bit expensive and it worked well. First, am sorry this happened to you. And, I want you to be satisfied...heck, it is my baby that you are using. But, in all of the smokes that I have nubbed, big ring gauage, small ring guage, in-between ring guage, I have never had this happen. In fact, I just put out a cigar that I nubbed that was fairly inexpensive...well, it was cheap but still in tact! Further, no one has anyone ever reported this happening to them when they have used it. I visit a local B&M shop about 3 to 4 times a week and all sorts of brothers/sisters are using it and they have never mentioned anything to me.
So, as with anything, things do happen and I am sorry! By the way, what was the name of the cigar and ring guage. It will help me, especially the ring guage to do some more research to see if we can come up with an answer.
Again, man, I am sorry!
Best,
Ylo2na
And, I was smoking an Oliva V the other night and this is about the third one in a row that absolutely split and shredded before I could even think about nubbing it. I did everything to recapture it, but to no avail and that is an expesnive stick for me! No...I did not use the nub on it!

Forrest,
Here is another suggestion if you shave off the tip.....find a paneling nail and shave it just like that. I think rounding the tip would cause you more problems than you would be solving. Also, when you pierce the cigar with the nubber, be sure to screw it into it. The spike has ridges and they are used to grab hold of the tobacco when you screw it in. That is our thinking anyway and it seems to work pretty well. Also, go out and buy yourself a Padron Anniversario 1926 or 1964 and try it. It it screws it up, I will send you the money it cost for the stick or send you another Padron 1926 or 1964, whichever one you use.
Best,
Chuck Leaf

Hi Chuck, I'll try screwing it in next time I use it. Obviously didn't have problems with it on other cigars either. Just figured it'd be on my first ISOM that something would go haywire. Sheeite happens.
It was a Montecristo #5, so 4x40

Sorry, but this just made me laugh. I'd have better luck finding Waldo in this town!

Those types of cigars, just aren't in Lewiston, ID!
